Books and writing (by alison)
Alison Percival
https://alisonpercival.wordpress.com/page/2
Some progress at last. I finally, finally, finally seem to be making some progress on my novel. After what seems a long time of false starts, long fallow periods, going up blind alleys, I now seem to be on the right track. Famous last words probably. The impetus has come really from going to the York Festival of Writing. Fishbowl by Bradley Somer – book review. Earlier this year I stayed in a high-rise hotel in a district of Manhattan, quite far off the tourist track. My window looked out onto a vast...
The Girl in the Red Coat – book review | Alison Percival
https://alisonpercival.wordpress.com/2015/03/05/the-girl-in-the-red-coat
The Girl in the Red Coat – book review. By alison on March 5, 2015. You know how sometimes the voice just leaps off the page and grabs you in certain books? That’s what happened to me on the first page of. The Girl In the Red Coat. I’d mentally bookmarked this book as one to read after. Picked the author, Kate Hamer, as one of their New Faces of Fiction 2015. Back in early January, and on Twitter there was a real buzz about it. But when it came to it, I had a curious sense of resistance. March 5, 2015.
Still Alice by Lisa Genova – book review | Alison Percival

Still Alice by Lisa Genova – book review. By alison on February 23, 2015. I’ve been consciously shying away from books and films with the subject of Alzheimer’s since the end of last Summer, when my father passed away from the disease. Whether it was selfish or self preservation I’m not sure because before that moment I had greedily read everything I could on the subject in an effort to understand what was happening. I read non fiction such as. Where Do Memories Go: Why Dementia Changes. There are some b...

A very modern mystery: Q&A with the author of What She Left. By alison on May 11, 2015. By T R Richmond is, in many ways, a classic mystery.A young woman, 25 year old trainee journalist Alice Salmon, is found dead in a river. Did she slip in and drown after a drunken night out with friends? Did she kill herself? Or was she murdered? Being much in demand, I was pleased when he agreed to answer some questions. The onslaught of 24 hour rolling news sometimes feels that the news will eat itself. With the...

A great WordPress.com site. Yes I’m still here →. Is there anybody there. January 26, 2014. Well, I don’t seem to have any readers at all, which is not surprising really for a blog with no posts at all, but just in case anyone is lurking out there, here is an update on the life of cathythewriter. On the writing front I have today entered a novel competition and a short memoir competition and submitted Module Three of the online short-story writing course I’m doing (and enjoying). And there you have it.

A great WordPress.com site. Newer posts →. While waiting #am reading. August 26, 2016. I’d thought by now that I’d be regaling you every day with stories of offers pouring in from agents, but apart from a few immediate rejections, there has basically been complete radio silence from the seven or eight agents currently considering my Bath Novel Award. Shortlisted manuscript, even from those who expressed initial enthusiasm. Maybe they’re all on holiday. Let’s hope so. Which I’ve been reading since y...

A great WordPress.com site. Is there anybody there. Yes I’m still here. March 11, 2014. A great WordPress.com site. Is there anybody there →. January 4, 2014. Thought you might like an update on my literary commute. It’s going well. So far, from the list I posted on November 12th, I’ve read. And The Prime Minister. And lots of love stories, both of which are plus points for me. The Cough | Jo Hogan Writes

October 8, 2016. Neither of us can remember when it started. February? Except The Cough wouldn’t go away. I told him to go to the doctors, little nibbles and nags as routine as his coughing that I threw over my shoulder as I ran to catch a train. But it was still ‘just’ a cough. We bought throat pastilles, changed the bedding, dusted the books. In that particular moment, my partner reminded me why I loved him. He gasped. Nodded. Then in his soft, kind voice, he apologised to the Consultant an...I was les...

Thursday, December 15, 2011. The Time Has Come. As you can tell from reading my blog, I'm a bit of a hopeless blogger. I'll be honest, I started it mainly because the "publishing world" said you should have a blog if you are an author. But I'm on Facebook, Twitter and I have a website and I find it very hard to keep up with them all and write and run my business. I will still keep everyone updated on Facebook and Twitter. My Website will be updated also. Links to this post. Sunday, October 23, 2011.
