Fragrant World is another strong album from the band, but to me it is is missing something, some spark, that made Odd Blood such a good album. The album is already known more for it’s Pitchfork review than it’s sound, so I’ll get that out of the way now so we can all move on. I had a strange experience yesterday, which is saying a lot in a lifetime of strange experiences. On my way to work in the morning, I saw a high school aged girl walking to her bus stop at the end of my street, in the pouring rain. We’re talking drenching, running-down-the-street-in-rivers pouring rain. There was no bus in sight. So I told her to get in the car. I assured her I wasn’t going to hurt her, I just couldn’t bear the thought of driving away and leaving her there to get soaked. Is no one safe?
