Along the Sea Shore

Along the Sea Shore. August 14, 2010. Fish of the Day: August 14, 2010. Eight species in the Remora family. The remora, or sucker fish, is one of the most commonly seen fish because it hangs off of some of the most popular creatures in the ocean – sharks, whales, stingrays, you name it! They are long, slender, grey fish with a sucker-like first dorsal fin. They follow larger animals, and even boats, around the world with that suction cup, feeding on the feces and bacteria on its host. Fish of the Day.

Along the Sea Shore. August 12, 2010. Fish of the Day: August 12, 2010. The oarfish is one of the most peculiar fish featured thus far on Fish of the Day – but then again, there aren’t any normal pelagic fish are there? Posted in Fish of the Day. Along the Sea Shore. August 8, 2010. Fish of the Day: August 8, 2010. The great white is the largest aggressive shark in the ocean, reaching over 20 feet and weighing over 7,300 pounds. Their large bodies and pointed heads make them unmistakable in the ocean – that is, if you see them first. Great whites are light to dark gray in color, with a white underbelly. They have perfectly triangular teeth with serrated edges. Posted in Fish of the Day. Tags: Along the Sea Shore. Fish of the Day. You are commenti...

Along the Sea Shore. August 11, 2010. Fish of the Day: August 11, 2010. Marlin hunt for other fish, primarily tuna, mackerel, and squid. They do not seem to care about size of their food; the marlin eats anything from small sardine-like fish to large 100 lb. tuna. While they are large fish, marlin are preyed upon by Great white sharks and mako sharks. Posted in Fish of the Day. Tags: Along the Sea Shore. Fish of the Day. Along the Sea Shore. August 13, 2010. Fish of the Day: August 13, 2010. The yellowfin tuna is one of the largest in the entire tuna family, reaching over 300 pounds in some instances. They have round, silver and blue bodies with – obviously – bright yellow fins. Yellowfin tuna are usually found in schools, and they tend to follow pods of dolphins or whales, as well as boats (which makes them a prime candidate for the commercial fishing industry). Along the Sea Shore. August 8, 2010. Fish of the Day: August 9, 2010. Location: Coasts of Australia. The Australian cuttlefish spends 95% of its day resting, and the other five percent hunting for food. The large resting period suggests to scientists that most of their energy is focused on growing. The cuttlefish reproduce only once in their lifetime because shortly after mating and laying eggs, female cuttlefish die. Posted in Fish of the Day. Tags: Along the Sea Shore. Fish of the Day. Along the road to learn…. June 27, 2011 · 11:49 am. Getting my thoughts together – the beginning of a new term. After a brief rest, term 2 of my Grad Dip of Secondary Education is upon us and its time to get reflective again. This week the idea is to reflect on our ideas about literacy and our teaching discipline. So here are my initial thoughts on some of these ideas. Do we learn about our society? What has gone wrong? What has gone right? Will it work if we do it again? Our first lecture posed the ques...
