Families are like fudge - mostly sweet with a few nuts. A Different Kind of Celebration. JD's 1st birthday is a week from tomorrow. A 1st birthday is a big deal when it's your 1st child. It's a pretty big deal when it's your last child. And it's a pretty massive deal when it marks survival. It is defined as the period of time following childbirth. But how long is that time? And how long does that time feel? And how long is that period of time when it describes your depression? Pretty sure it's gone.

I've heard (and/or seen, really, via Facebook), several friends talk about how much they miss their family this week and how much they wish they could be with them for Thanksgiving. Now, I'm not saying they are wrong for having those feelings, but I have a confession to make. I don't miss my family today. It's been really chill and quiet, and I've loved it.
