Edifice Rex: August 2015
http://edificerex.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Narratives of a house and life in progress. Wednesday, August 26, 2015. An absolute favorite song of mine. Lot of truth in it. Don't neglect what you have in your hand. I've been told that it's just the way life goes. Once the wildest river is now a trickle to the sea. The peak we risk our lives to scale becomes dirt beneath our feet. The wisdom of a life time always disappears untapped. Paradise once given will always be taken back. And the love you hang your life upon will start to slowly crack. I've b...

Narratives of a house and life in progress. While we were on the coast a few weeks ago, we took time to visit Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile. I can't really remember if I had ever been before but it was very nice and I enjoyed touring the gardens. They have a pretty wide selection of garden types; sunny meadows, shade, water and Japanese amongst others. Since it was originally a fish camp it actually is situated on the shores of a river and several of the trails lead down to the water. Lots of mossy trees...

Edifice Rex: Rusted
http://edificerex.blogspot.com/2011/07/rusted.html
Narratives of a house and life in progress. Tuesday, July 26, 2011. A reader asked me to show a few pics of the rebar. Handrail I did for the deck and how it had aged. I had initially sprayed the whole deck and rebar. With a light coat of thinned linseed oil. This lasted for a while but some rust is showing on it now. I need to clean everything this fall, go over the rebar. With a wire brush and then respray it all. However, it looks fine; just a bit darker than when new. Oh I fixed up my Barking Mad....

Sunday, May 31, 2015. May 30, 2015. Moreau Lake State Park. After a too-long absence, my blog has come to life again,. Much like the butterflies we saw on our walk yesterday. It was one of many walks this year with my dear friend Jackie,. Who kept asking, "WHEN are you going to post another blog? It was she who, years ago, encouraged me to create this blog. Her own blog is the fantastic Saratoga Woods and Waterways. We are blessed to be able to see such beauty flitting around us. Only on condition that t...

Sunday, January 26, 2014. The Beach, Again. January 26, 2014. About Rockport, Massachusetts]. Still held on without a break. The inland barrens and shrubbery,. The desert and the high sand-bank with its even slope,. The broad white beach,. The green water on the bar,. And the Atlantic Ocean;. And we traversed with delight new reaches of the shore …. HDT, The Beach Again. One more batch of memories of my beach vacation …. This year, instead of museums, or schooner-rides, or shopping. And the mind spin free.

waterlily: February 2014
http://watrlily.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 11, 2014. February 11, 2014. Ice Meadows of the Hudson River,. While at Snake Rock - I begin remembering a hot summer’s day in this very place. And remembering a friend who is no longer with us. I did not know him as well as the others in the Thursday Naturalists - who have walked with him for many a verdant mile –- but will miss him none the less. On that day, we all spent the morning on this side of the river,. Happily clambering over rocks. And enjoying the sights both near and far.

Tuesday, February 10, 2015. January 17, 2015. Ice Meadows on the Hudson River. Part Three – The River. Ice is an interesting subject for contemplation. HDT Walden, The Pond in Winter. It was one of those perfect winter mornings. Two weeks had passed, and I was finally feeling like venturing outdoors again. Jackie suggested a drive up to the Hudson River Ice Meadows, where we could observe yet another form of ice, making short forays from the warmth of the car. That suited me fine! It forms large rafts.

Sunday, March 15, 2015. Hudson Falls, NY. The landscape covered with snow,. Seen by moonlight from these Cliffs,. Encased in snowy armor two feet thick, …. Who can believe that this is the habitable globe? February 3, 1852. To be truthful, we have not had the heavy snows that have befallen the state of Massachusetts this year, so I really can’t complain. What snow we have gotten has been fluffy, and in manageable amounts. HowEVER, in my neck of the woods, February has been the second coldest on record.

waterlily: Springs of Life
http://watrlily.blogspot.com/2015/03/springs-of-life.html
Sunday, March 1, 2015. January 25, 2015. Saratoga Spa State Park. If you would get exercise. Go in search of the springs of life. Think of a man’s swinging dumb-bells for his health,. When those springs are bubbling up. In far off pastures unsought by him. One morning in January, while deep in the clutches of that nasty cold virus, I awoke suddenly from a vivid dream as I heard a single word spoken: “ Orenda. According to one online source,. Dreams expressed the desires of the most inner realm of the soul.
