John Resig - HTML 5 data- Attributes

HTML 5 data- Attributes. A new feature being introduced in HTML 5. Is the addition of custom data attributes. This is a, seemingly, bizarre addition to the specification – but actually provides a number of useful benefits. Simply, the specification for custom data attributes. States that any attribute that starts with “data-” will be treated as a storage area for private data (private in the sense that the end user can’t see it – it doesn’t affect layout or presentation). This allows you to write valid.

What does Specter’s switch mean for obstructionism? April 28th, 2009. The big news, only hours old, is that Arlen Specter will become a Democrat. Obviously this has implications for the balance of power in the Senate though not as significantly so as in 2001 when Jim Jeffords switched from GOP to independent, thereby giving Democrats control of the Senate. There are only 99 senators. First, keep in mind that Al Franken has not yet been seated. A cloture motion needs three-fifths of all. Pay attention to ...

John Resig - HTML5 Shiv
http://ejohn.org/blog/html5-shiv
Assuming that it’ll be a while before most browsers attempt to implement most of HTML 5. A perfectly reasonable assumption) we need to start thinking of ways to tackle the creation and rendering of HTML 5 components in the meantime. Obviously, using the tools of JavaScript and CSS we can accomplish a lot. Thankfully, Sjoerd Visscher. Mentioned an interesting technique. Let’s take a look at a simple example. Pretending that we wanted to set about implementing the HTML 5 figure element. Using some basic CS...

John Resig - Cross-Site XMLHttpRequest
http://ejohn.org/blog/cross-site-xmlhttprequest
I’ve just finished writing up some docs on the new Cross-Site XMLHttpRequest. Feature in Firefox 3. I was a little worried at first, but it definitely appears to be both easy-to-implement and easy-to-use. Specifically, it’s an implementation of the W3C Access Control working draft. Which is respected by Firefox’s XMLHttpRequest). If you’re interested in giving it a try you should fire up your copy of Firefox 3. And get ready to take it for a spin. More information can be found in the documentation. Docum...

Prototype Blog: Prototype 1.7.2
http://prototypejs.org/2014/04/18/prototype-1-7-2
Prototype 1.7.2. On April 18, 2014. Like clockwork assuming you own a horrible clock the newest bugfix release of Prototype is out. Because it’s a bugfix release, there are no earth-shattering changes, but here are the main ones:. We updated to the latest version of Sizzle. For better performance and to fix a few issues we’ve seen in the wild. We fixed an issue in recent versions of IE where an internal capability check was inadvertently triggering a "This page uses Java" dialog. Thanks to Jason Westbrook.
