An Even Half Dozen

An Even Half Dozen. Tuesday, January 26, 2010. Food Rules Family Project. A few weeks ago while running errands I heard portions of an interview with Michael Pollan on NPR’s On Point. He was discussing his book Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual. Lashes9 asked me if in the future if I ever saw him about to eat “crap” that wasn’t good for him, would I please tell him. Noodle12 has, on his own, picked up my copy of Omnivore’s Dilemma. And has begun reading it. Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual. Links to this post.

An Even Half Dozen. Wednesday, April 1, 2009. Politician9: (to his sisters). Turn up the music so I can hear it. It's girls music. It's about LOVE you won't like it. Momma likes love, turn it up for her. I don't like love. Nope Can't stand it. Then why did you marry daddy? To make his life as miserable as possible. Then you are doing a terrible job. I think he really, really likes you. Links to this post. Labels: The Things They Say. A Random Haiku for Spring. Soaking in the tub,. I gaze out of the window.

An Even Half Dozen. Friday, March 27, 2009. A Guest Post by Noodle12. I ran across a book called Description and Setting. And thought it might be helpful to him. He has been working through some of the exercises. One of the most recent he completed was to use descriptive writing techniques to focus on the past. He wrote a piece on his great-grandmother, Gigi. The Most Beautiful Woman in the World. I have barely enough time to set down my bags before I am crushed against Gigi's soft belly by a warm embrace.

An Even Half Dozen. Thursday, October 29, 2009. Lately I have been feeling rather defeated by the demands of having a baby/toddler again. My time is certainly not my own anymore. I had forgotten how "on" you have to be. Even when I think The Nugget1 is busy and I may have a 1/2 hour to cook or knit or read, I rarely attempt to take advantage of it. Why? Why don't I even try? And What if he does interrupt me? What is the worse that can happen? This is from the book Simple Truths. The second (and my apolog...

An Even Half Dozen. Wednesday, October 28, 2009. Communicating in Complete Points. I can't say as I blame him for not talking more though. He really hasn't had much need yet. He has so many siblings at the ready and when a point and a grunt accomplishes the communication task so well, why bother with words? Labels: The Things They Dont Say. Let your life speak" - Quaker founder, George Fox. Thursday, April 08, 2010. Privilege vs. Freedom. I've been mulling over the meaning of the word “privilege” lately. I've been seeing this word tossed around rather carelessly, often with good intentions, but sometimes as a kind of verbal weapon, and sometimes in a confusing way. I've been thinking that it would be helpful (for me, and perhaps for others) to be more clear about what privilege is and what it is not. Be available to everyone. I am only usin...

Let your life speak" - Quaker founder, George Fox. Saturday, May 07, 2011. Mr and Mrs. Thomas. Like he was really, truly glad to see me on the rare occasions we crossed paths. I couldn't swear in a courtroom that the man I saw today was Mr. Thomas, but when the spring sunlight caught his brown skin, his salt and pepper hair, and his warm smile, I was as sure as I needed to be. Most of all, the two of them together just looked. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Mr and Mrs. Thomas.

Let your life speak" - Quaker founder, George Fox. Wednesday, February 23, 2011. The Cream Rises to the Top. Oh how I love skimming fresh cream off the top of the jar of milk! Unless we're on our last jar, cream is always ready to hand when we need it. Most of it goes into the cream whipper. To top our mochas. And hot cocoas. Sometimes a little goes into mashed potatoes, or a desert recipe. Occasionally I make sour cream or butter with it. Labels: Hearth and Home. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). This is an a...

Let your life speak" - Quaker founder, George Fox. Tuesday, May 04, 2010. They Were Good. and Flawed. Nevertheless, I can't help but feel bad for Penn and the early settlers. They were so sincere in their desire to do things right - to be an example of what Love and Light can do and to model tolerance and harmony among diverse groups of Christians. Guess what they did instead? Should we proclaim "hypocracy" and make snide comments? Should we forgive all? I'm looking forward to any comments on this one&#4...
