Formula For A Favorite Movie | A Night at the Movies
https://anightsatthemovies.wordpress.com/2012/03/22/formula-for-a-favorite-movie
A Night at the Movies. The Everlasting Magic of the Movies. Double Take →. Formula For A Favorite Movie. I’d like to propose three core elements:. 1) An All- Star Cast. 2) A Timeless Tale With Emotional Punch. Our favorite movies have memorable dialogue I’ll be back. And Here’s looking at you kid. So I understand this point might be a little bit controversial, especially for the Michael Bay film fans out there who will argue that explosions alone can make a movie awesome. I accept this point (and I do li...

In this blog, I’ll share weekly movie reviews, commentary on my favorite films and unique insights about annual awards ceremonies, box office numbers and occasionally the stars themselves. SMPASOCIAL: Would have could have
http://smpasocial.blogspot.com/2012/04/would-have-could-have.html
Monday, April 30, 2012. Would have could have. What should I have talked more about this semester? What could I have talked less about? Recently I went to the Sunlight Foundation's Transparency Camp. I was inspired by ideas of open-government, hacking and journalism all working together, access to information, and self-organizing. Should I have included this? Should I have talked more about Facebook? Should I have talked more about the idea of Facebook as a platform. Did we do enough on privacy?
SMPASOCIAL: How Do You Get Something to Spread?

Wednesday, March 28, 2012. How Do You Get Something to Spread? For reasons that will be later explained in the class, I don't like using the term viral. Viral implies, as Henry Jenkins. Argues, the idea that we are not active participants in the sharing and distribution of media content; that there was no preexisting structure to share this content; and that there was no way that our own emotions, tags, etc. influenced how this meme, etc. got shared. What takes off and what doesn't? Best Summer 2014 Films.
SMPASOCIAL: Twitter in the Newsroom
http://smpasocial.blogspot.com/2012/03/twitter-in-newsroom.html
Sunday, March 4, 2012. Twitter in the Newsroom. It's getting to that point where I will, indeed, try to publish all my data from The Times that I used in my dissertation as a book. One of the things I looked at was how journalists were using social media. At a conference, NYT editor Lauren Heron said:. I think my job will probably not exist in five years. Presumably, everybody will be on social media platforms. It goes a little like this. Nytimes: 4.5 million followers. Pogue: 1.2 million followers.

Sunday, May 13, 2012. So you thought it was going to be so hard. So for the past two classes Ive taught about social media (theory and practice? Theres been outright rebellion. What? How do you mean? What are the guidelines? What are we supposed to do. But my dear students, you excel, far beyond any kind of comprehension I can expect. This is spreadability in action. Heres the video. Chock full of generous tips and dining don'ts for the average D.C. restauranteur. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Monthly Archives: May 2012. May 9, 2012. So when I first started this blog, I thought it would be a great place for people to come together and share their experiences in the restaurant industry, like Habermas’s ‘ public sphere. What it turned into (and I’m okay with it) was a place for. Frustrations… and for people to respond to them. And so emerged #EATiquette. There are...

SMPASOCIAL: February 2012
http://smpasocial.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 26, 2012. Richard Dawkins, as we will learn, came up with the idea of memes to try to figure out how cultural ideas replicate. If genes have to do with biology, then memes have to do with memory. He ascribed a biological view to the transmission of memes through culture, using ideas from evolution to help us understand how cultural products transform and change. That's part of where the whole "viral" thing comes from. Everyone, everywhere - now if you look there's. We make it fun. Th...
SMPASOCIAL: Occupeep and MemePeep
http://smpasocial.blogspot.com/2012/04/occupeep-and-memepeep.html
Monday, April 9, 2012. Admittedly it's a little after Easter for this post, but I thought I would draw upon something quite appropriate to this class: the Washington Post's annual Peep diorama contest. This contest combines the physical with the virtual. Take something like Peeps: apply the principles of convergence culture (remix big media: Peeps, Media, with creativity) and then make it shareable - all via the Post Web site. So here's the winner:.
