The Hitchhikers Guide to my Paths and Highways. Thursday, 8 January 2009. Crikey the 8th already, so much to do so little time to do it all. Christmas was great, followed by a very memorable New Year at my sons wine bar, dressed as the local tottie. The theme was "Moulin Rouge", several of my nursing friends (Ruth brought her long term boyfriend 'Pierre' who is French, he really fitted in with the scenery a treat) joined us getting into the spirt of things by dressing up for the celebrations. There was a...

The Hitchhikers Guide to my Paths and Highways. Saturday, 2 August 2008. Mum will have been home a week this Monday, and my sisters and I are all a little concerned about her. I have often heard folks talk about relatives who have been ill, and say "they seemed to have given up". In fact I saw it with my dear step-mum last year, the fight for life over, an acceptance of what will be will be. She is having endless visits from family and friends, yet something is wrong. All her food and drink being provide...

An ex-pat Yank in New Zealand blogs about art, literature, comics and tattoos. Mostly. Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Over on my other blog. I did a post about accepting criticism. It got me thinking about some differences between my home and the land of my birth. What happens when cirticism is part of the culture? Of course, life in Another Land has a certain,. Through the Looking Glass. Quality: any time something starts to look familiar, culture shock waits, a sting in the tail. And it does. From the ti...

The idea is to put in bold the stuff you've done. Easy enough:. 1 Started your own blog. 2 Slept under the stars. 3 Played in a band. 5 Watched a meteor shower. 6 Given more than you can afford to charity. Not sure what counts here). 7 Been to Disneyland/world. 8 Climbed a mountain. 9 Held a praying mantis. 10 Sang a solo. 15 Adopted a child. 47 Had your...

An ex-pat Yank in New Zealand blogs about art, literature, comics and tattoos. Mostly. Wednesday, May 14, 2008. My friend JoJo rarely touches money. His paycheck goes straight into his bank, and he uses his EFTPOS card (like an ATM card that works at the register) to take it back out again. When he wants to know his balance, or pay a bill, online auction, etc., he can bank from his cell phone. Even weirder, he used his cell to PAY FOR THE DRINK! Posted by Steve Malley.
