It’s not just the long twilight, but even when the sun is really bright, it does not have the harsh glare of the Australian sun. Because I was away during what was supposed to be the northern summer (this was actually only apparent in a few places! Naturally, people constantly ask me what was the highlight, but to be honest, HOW could I possibly pick just one?

Wednesday, August 3, 2011. Day 8: Friday July 29. Got underway early because of the thick fog, which suited me well! For once I could have my shower early without disturbing anyone! Also having to start to rethink my packing as it may be hot in Vancouver etc. Southbound in Steven’s passage to Fredrick Sound; we went past Five Fingers Lighthouse. Thursday, August 4, 2011. Day 9: Saturday July 30. A day in Petersburg - tried to update blog, but the noise etc. in the bar just got too much! Interesting town, even the pavements have a diferent design on each corner,. But I do not want to memorialise fish unlike this sculptor, as the smell from the cannery and all the fishing vessels has turned me right off fish on top of all that I ate on board! Johnny took me in a taxi to the ferry which unfortunately turned out to be very late coming in.

No problem getting to the Rocky Mountaineer pick-up point by 6.30, and it didn’t really matter that my window seat was on the wrong side as I spent most of the journey to Whistler in the observation car! During a delicious breakfast (Sue does all her own baking and bread making) had almost the last delightful "wildlife" experience of the trip, when a humming bird came to the feeder on the balcony!
