Anne of Avonlea: XII - A Jonah Day

http://anneofavonlea1.blogspot.com/2008/02/xii-jonah-day.html

Tuesday, February 19, 2008. XII - A Jonah Day. It really began the night before with a restless, wakeful vigil of grumbling toothache. When Anne arose in the dull, bitter winter morning she felt that life was flat, stale, and unprofitable. Anne turned from the second reader class which she was hearing. Really, Barbara," she said icily, "if you cannot move without falling over something you'd better remain in your seat. It is positively disgraceful for a girl of your age to be so awkward.". Joe, startled ...

Anne of Avonlea: IX - A Question of Color

http://anneofavonlea1.blogspot.com/2008/02/ix-question-of-color.html

Tuesday, February 19, 2008. IX - A Question of Color. That old nuisance of a Rachel Lynde was here again today, pestering me for a subscription towards buying a carpet for the vestry room," said Mr. Harrison wrathfully. "I detest that woman more than anybody I know. She can put a whole sermon, text, comment, and application, into six words, and throw it at you like a brick.". Mrs Lynde may be an acquired taste with some folks; but I didn't keep on eating bananas because I was told I'd learn to like them ...

Anne of Avonlea: I - An Irate Neighbor

http://anneofavonlea1.blogspot.com/2008/02/i-irate-neighbor.html

A tall, slim girl, "half-past sixteen," with serious gray eyes and hair which her friends called auburn, had sat down on the broad red sandstone doorstep of a Prince Edward Island farmhouse one ripe afternoon in August, firmly resolved to construe so many lines of Virgil. Why, she scrubbed the kitchen floor every second day," Mrs. Lynde told Marilla Cuthbert indignantly, "and if you could see it now! I had to hold up my skirts as I walked across it.".

Anne of Avonlea: XVIII - An Adventure on the Tory Road

http://anneofavonlea1.blogspot.com/2008/02/xviii-adventure-on-tory-road.html

Tuesday, February 19, 2008. XVIII - An Adventure on the Tory Road. Anne," said Davy, sitting up in bed and propping his chin on his hands, "Anne, where is sleep? People go to sleep every night, and of course I know it's the place where I do the things I dream, but I want to know WHERE it is and how I get there and back without knowing anything about it . . . and in my nighty too. Where is it? Over the mountains of the moon,. Down the valley of the shadow.'". Yet here she was doing it . . . so...Well, I'm...
