Eileen Dreyer's Blog: There's Old and Then There's Old
http://eileendreyer.blogspot.com/2010/10/theres-old-and-then-theres-old.html
Monday, October 11, 2010. There's Old and Then There's Old. Everybody in America knows what old is. Old is before television. Old is before computers and microwaves. Really old involves either Pilgrims or Native Americans, who fought nature to tame a wild and often unforgiving land. That is old. We in America are infants. All I have to say is, Americans are infants. Kind of makes our “George Washington Slept Here” signs silly in comparison. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Eileen Dreyer's Blog: I Get It Now
http://eileendreyer.blogspot.com/2010/10/i-get-it-now.html
Friday, October 15, 2010. I Get It Now. I have always wanted to travel to Italy, specifically Pompeii and Venice. I know. It makes no sense, but there you are. For different reasons, both places drew me. So when I agreed to plan the family trip to Italy, the stipulation was that we include Pompeii and Venice. Why do I have to leave? I know. It's been written every way but haiku (and if given the chance, I'd do one) about the romance and timeless beauty of Venice. Painters have struggled for centu...I'd h...

Eileen Dreyer's Blog: We're Not At McDonald's Anymore
http://eileendreyer.blogspot.com/2010/10/were-not-at-mcdonalds-anymore.html
Wednesday, October 06, 2010. We're Not At McDonald's Anymore. Now, on a regular Italian menu, you start with the Antipasti, which is what we call Appetizers in the US. The first course, or Primi, involves your pasta and pizza, which come on plates larger than I could consume in an entire day. You can also get vegetables, of course, or, to my eternal surprise, the best french fries I've ever had. And I haven't even begun to address how good the food is. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Wednesday, June 30, 2010. The Joy of Planning. I know. Anybody who has ever known me will look at that title and laugh. I hate to plan anything. Because of my ADD, I have- resentfully- learned to make lists and rely on calendars. But how much fun can planning be? When it leads to a trip to India or Ireland or Chile is at the end of it, a lot of fun. Do you know how many review sites there are? But I digress. Let's see. What's next? If I have to sacrifice something, is it Florence or Venice? So if I wrote...

Ancient Musings: More Pics of Greece
http://spartanqueen.blogspot.com/2008/07/more-pics-of-greece.html
A blog devoted to my historical fiction novels about Ancient Greece. Thursday, July 24, 2008. More Pics of Greece. I'm sorry my pictures and stories about Greece are coming along so slowly. I'm still recovering from my trip and playing catch-up with friends, family and work. I'm also still organizing all the notes I took. I do know that I plan to write extensive blogs on Delphi, Olympia, the Acropolis, and Meteora in the future. For now though, here are some more pictures I took. Enjoy! I asked someone a...

Ancient Musings: Happy 4th of July!
http://spartanqueen.blogspot.com/2013/07/happy-4th-of-july.html
A blog devoted to my historical fiction novels about Ancient Greece. Thursday, July 04, 2013. Happy 4th of July! Happy 4th of July, Readers! Today is a good day to reflect on how important our freedom is, and why we should never take it for granted. Today is ALSO a good day to celebrate democracy in general, which thanks to Themistocles and the Ancient Greeks, was saved in its infancy during the 2nd Persian War. Passions | That's Life
https://curiouslady.wordpress.com/2008/01/20/passions
Life in the autumn. A Senseless Act →. January 20, 2008. Everyone has a passion, even if it’s only to avoid having one. At the moment, my huge passion is quilting. After moving to Rison and looking around (not very well, evidently) for a quilting guild or group, I finally found not one… but two! Last week I joined one of them, and I plan to visit the other one at their next meeting. I’m happy. Oh, well, I’ll figure it out. Thanks for indulging me this little bit of whimsey. I guess this is my way of ...

A Senseless Act | That's Life
https://curiouslady.wordpress.com/2008/02/17/a-senseless-act
Life in the autumn. February 17, 2008. Yes, today I’m staying home. The past few days have been hard. My stepmother was murdered in her own home. The facts are not important, except that a 70-year-old woman was vulnerable because of her age and because she lived alone in an inner city neighborhood. Is this what we all come to as we grow older and lose our companions? Do we all have fear to look forward to? Where is God in this scenario? These things to happen, but he does allow us to use our free will in...

Spring is here! | That's Life
https://curiouslady.wordpress.com/2009/04/03/spring-is-here
Life in the autumn. Gotta Have Our Toys →. April 3, 2009. Since the post about my stepmother’s murder last year, so much has happened. Another death, my own mother, in December. Of cancer. And now my dear husband has cancer himself. Other than those two very life-changing events, nothing much has changed. The march of time has kept me aging, and the emerging of more aches and pains is testimony to that unrelenting path toward senility. Now I’m off to the first item on my list for today (lists! Run, Run, ...

Ancient Musings: Ancient Greek Football.
http://spartanqueen.blogspot.com/2013/09/ancient-american-football-harpastum.html
A blog devoted to my historical fiction novels about Ancient Greece. Thursday, September 05, 2013. Today is the first day of the American football season, and while couch potatoes everywhere are settling in to watch their favorite teams, I thought it would be fun to blog about the world's first "American" football team: the Spartans! No, I'm not talking about the Michigan Spartans, sports fans. I'm talking about the actual. Pollux explains the game as thus:. Not much else is known about Episkyros ,.
