Monday, December 23, 2013. 2013 was a great year! Lots of fun things happened in 2013. I began my fourth year teaching, found out I'm expecting my first niece or nephew, got engaged, finished grad school, and started my blog and TpT. I'm hoping that 2014 has even more fun things in store. I know part of that is up to me! How do you plan to ring in the New Year? We're hosting a New Year's Resolution blog link-up. Here are some things I'm going to try to do to improve my 2014. Okay, now it's your turn!

Saturday, March 29, 2014. Exit Ticket Parking Lot. Exit slips are a great way to get students to reflect on their learning and to help teachers reflect on their teaching. I always had a tough time keeping track of exit tickets. I tried it with Post-It notes, but they would fall off. Then, I thought- why not Velcro? I just cut, laminated, backed with Velcro, and had students write one thing they learned in today's class period. Students love these exit tickets, and they make for a great post-assessment.

Thursday, April 24, 2014. Carnival-Style Sight Word Fish Bowl Game with Candy Fish. Though I feel bad about throwing ping pong balls at goldfish as a child, I do have some fond childhood memories of the famous carnival fish bowl games. You know the ones- ping pong balls are tossed into a group of bowls, and if they land inside a bowl, the player wins the goldfish. I thought, why not do this with candy fish? This could also be done with Goldfish Crackers. For a healthier version, or fish erasers. Sometime...

Tales of a Carolina Girl: Last Week Fun

http://talesofacarolinagirl.blogspot.com/2015/06/last-week-fun.html

Tales of a Carolina Girl. Monday, June 15, 2015. Last week was the last week of school for students. We celebrated in my room with a different theme for each day. Monday was math games, Tuesday was fun with reading, Wednesday was science, Thursday was reflection of the year and Friday was summer activities. My students enjoyed these theme days and overall were able to keep their focus the last week while enjoying themselves. Reading in the dark on reading day. Rain in a jar on science day.

Tales of a Carolina Girl: What Tommy taught me

http://talesofacarolinagirl.blogspot.com/2015/03/what-tommy-taught-me.html

Tales of a Carolina Girl. Sunday, March 22, 2015. What Tommy taught me. We celebrated big time as this was a huge accomplishment for him. Not long ago Tommy charged me with a hug and told me thank you for reading with him. In that moment, I felt very guilty for the attitude I had towards him lately. I thought, how can I be frustrated with a little boy who I know is 100 times more frustrated than I am. Have I tried every single strategy out there to help him? March 22, 2015 at 7:22 PM. Hi again Jamie,.

Tales of a Carolina Girl: February 2015

http://talesofacarolinagirl.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Tales of a Carolina Girl. Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Today I'm linking up to an awesome new link up I found called Worship Wednesday. In this linkup you just share any scripture, verse or experience that has encouraged you during the week. I've been reading a great book recently called You'll Get Through This by Max Lucado. A quote that stuck out to me this week while I was reading was "Hard hearts never heal, spongy ones do.". Has someone hardened your heart? Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Another idea ...

Tales of a Carolina Girl. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Other than conferences I also have my own list of books I want to read this summer. I've already almost finished the book pictured below and it has been one of my favorite books related to students with learning disabilities. Below is a picture of my current stack of books I want to read this summer. Some books are rereads, some are just for fun and non school related and most are related to learning more about teaching students with disabilties. Started ...

http://talesofacarolinagirl.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Tales of a Carolina Girl. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Max, our classroom elf on the shelf. Max enjoyed partner reading to his friend Mr. Potato Head. He also loves stickers and got a little carried away. My handsome puppy ready for Christmas. I took Jack to Petsmart to get his first "pawdicure.". My cousin got me in interested in the fiddle and I ended up buying one! Well that is all for this year! I hope everyone has a safe New Year's Eve, see you next in 2015. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Touch, taste, create, know, worship. Tuesday, March 25, 2014. A Response to Cultivating Friendships. Inspired by the blog article this morning on the Art of Simple about cultivating friendships. And the perfect timing of the need in my own life, I thought about this example:. I want to take the time to cultivate a garden. But the thing about gardens is that they are not self seeding, self weeding or even self harvesting. We can't walk away and leave them hoping for the same state as last year's crop.

From Diane Setterfield's The Thirteenth Tale. Monday, March 10, 2014. Living in the Shadow. Sometimes I like to live in the shadow of people who I don't know, but for whom I have respect. The bits and pieces they share with the world resonate with me. I find myself sharing their opinions and wanting to live like them. Maybe I can, maybe it's not too far beyond me to become the attributes that I admire in others. Saturday, June 15, 2013. I'm riddled with guilt when I know they will see pictures of my Elli...
