There is a proud history of contemporary Indigenous music on the APY Lands. During the 1970s and 80s the shape and style of A n. Angu music began to emerge as guitars, basses and drum kits found their way onto communities. There was still singing around the campfire with an acoustic guitar, but the country and western and gospel sounds were often drowned out by high volume rock and roll and – as musicians became skilled – the distinctive sound of A n. Angu desert reggae emerged.

Training at PY Media is provided in house using bilingual teaching resources developed by PY Media Station Coordinator Tom Holder. This unaccredited training provides new employees with an introduction to PY Media and radio. The focus of training at PY Media is to build skills based competence in our new employees pertaining to our day-to-day operational requirements. Training sessions are held at PY Media every month and are open to all Anangu interested in a career in media.

The Road Rules Campaign translation project included 11 videos translated into Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara for the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure. As part of the project, 11 out of the 13 commonly misunderstood road rule refresher videos were translated and audio recorded by PY Media, Uwuwa in 2013-14.
