Varley's Downunder: Melbourne Cup
http://varleysdownunder.blogspot.com/2009/12/melbourne-cup.html
Thoughts and experiences of the Varley family whilst living in Australia. Wednesday, December 2, 2009. November 3, 2009. The Melbourne Cup is a big big horse race here in Victoria. It makes for a four day holiday it's so big! We didn't make it to the race but we did take Bridget and Alex into the CBD. And watched the race in Federation Square. The event wouldn't be complete without a little wager. I put my $5 down on a filly named. I ended up picking the winning horse and winning $20 plus Brian's watch!

Melbourne's Spring Racing Carnival is a six week season of horse racing as well as fashion parade. Melbournians make a real effort of dressing to the Nines for these events. Michael and a group of friends took the train to the races on a sunny Saturday afternoon. This pic doesn't let you see the boys too well, but don't the girls all look fabulous!
