Around Britain with a Paunch: November 2014

http://aroundbritainwithapaunch.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Around Britain with a Paunch. Thursday, 13 November 2014. The good people of Waitrose sent me a wonderful box last year full of the ingredients needed to make a Christmas cake. Normal life has got the better of me until now and prevented me from finding time to write about it. But now, I find myself next to a belching chap from Chicago with time on my hands. Needless to say, thank you Waitrose. It's not quite time to say Merry Christmas yet, but it has certainly got me in the mood for some festive ba...

Around Britain with a Paunch: October 2014

http://aroundbritainwithapaunch.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Around Britain with a Paunch. Tuesday, 14 October 2014. It’s a time of year I associate with Sylvia Plath’s poem Blackberrying. A lament about a summer gone. It’s one of my favourite poems – albeit lacerated with allusions and symbolism that would have given Freud a nervous breakdown. BLACKBERRYING – Sylvia Plath. Nobody in the lane, and nothing, nothing but blackberries,. Blackberries on either side, though on the right mainly,. A blackberry alley, going down in hooks, and a sea. Ebon in the hedges, fat.

Around Britain with a Paunch: Bánh Xèo

http://aroundbritainwithapaunch.blogspot.com/2015/04/banh-xeo.html

Around Britain with a Paunch. Thursday, 16 April 2015. We learned that Bánh Xèo is an onomatopoeic word that connotes the sizzling or crackling sound you hear when you make one. The batter is a mixture of rice flour, coconut milk and turmeric which fries in a way that leaves a pock marked surface similar to baddy’s face in Licence to Kill. We found it took longer to cook the pancake than a traditional English version. But the patience was rewarded with a crispy shell to take on the filling. Whisk the ric...

Around Britain with a Paunch: ABC Kitchen

http://aroundbritainwithapaunch.blogspot.com/2015/04/abc-kitchen.html

Around Britain with a Paunch. Thursday, 30 April 2015. Nestled into the ABC interior design store is the ABC Kitchen. It’s like Petersham Nurseries has had a love child with the Grain Store, a catwalk show and a Conran design shop. After a couple of very firm recommendations (thanks Suz and Gav) we popped in for a light lunch and had our snow boots blown off. Cowie’s egg yolk and ricotta raviolo with a game ragu was a joyous explosion of sunny decadence. Dusted with parmesan it growled of umami...Pop up ...

Sarah Palin and Paul Revere: a prelude to the e-mails. | La luna storta

https://lalunastorta.wordpress.com/2011/06/11/sarah-palin-and-paul-revere-a-prelude-to-the-e-mails

Film Break: Gosha Hideo’s Sword of the Beast. Sarah Palin and Paul Revere: a prelude to the e-mails. If you’ve got a little time on your hands, as this blog often does, you might want to help the good folks at the Guardian sift through the reams of e-mails. Occasionally for stories that can be passed off here as original journalistic work. One can picture Paul Revere Chuck Norris with an admixture of Charlton Heston trussed up like an animal by the bloodthirsty and bell-ringing Redcoats, turning to his h...

Where you’ll find a brief introduction as well as two essays providing a greater social and political context for the film. (I definitely recommend at the very least glancing at this essay on Sword of the Beast by Patrick Macias. Fans of swordplay needn’t worry…there are battles aplenty in this little gem. Good Food Etc.: September 2014

http://goodfoodetc.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 25, 2014. Breakfast in a pan. I'm not sure this even qualifies as a recipe as it was essentially thrown together using leftovers and store cupboard goods, but it was such a lovely breakfast that I'm writing it down anyway. Breakfast in a Pan. Handful of diced onions. 1/3 cup of cooked beans (I used haricot, I think). 1/2 can of tinned chopped tomatoes. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve with crusty, toasted bread for scooping up the whole mixture. Links to this post. Links to this post.

Food is good: Plums are not the only fruit

http://sebastianroach.blogspot.com/2012/09/plums-are-not-only-fruit.html

Monday, 17 September 2012. Plums are not the only fruit. The last couple of posts have been on stuff to do with plums, lots of plums (and there’s still jam and tart to come…), but I wouldn’t want you to go away with the idea that this blog is all, and only, about plums these days. Of course it’s not. And of course this time of year, the end of the summer and beginning of autumn, is famously the most abundant time ofyear. For all sorts of fruit and veg – not to mention wild mushrooms and game. Speaking fo...

Thursday, August 28, 2014. A La Petite Chaise. 36 Rue de Grenelle. K and J were in Paris so I nipped over for a day to see them (justifying it as cheaper than a flight to LA). Obviously if you're in Paris you should try to eat well - using David Lebovitz. As our guide, we ended up at A La Petite Chaise. Links to this post. Thursday, August 21, 2014. Links to this post. Monday, February 23, 2015. For dinner. We shared a bottle of wine, pictured above, that was on the cheaper end of the list but paired well with our food. The artichoke and ricotta gnudi dish was the standout for me - two of my favorite things in one dish! Links to this post. Monday, February 16, 2015. 69-73 Saint John Street. Links to this post. Good Food Etc.: October 2014

http://goodfoodetc.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 09, 2014. Smug jerk-ness aside, we now have a restaurant at the end of our road that has a chef that is well known and well awarded. Rotorino. Which didn't have a sign up when we went (but I think that has now changed) is a gem of a neighbourhood restaurant. We went on a Sunday evening, so things were pretty chill. I had my sleb spot early on, helped by the fact that we'd just watched Broadchurch in the couple of weeks before visiting Rotorino, so hi Nigel! The meal only stumbled when w...

Around Britain with Margaret Sharrow. Tuesday, 23 February 2010. Walking Long Wood, Lampeter. Ignore a place for a few years, and it changes - often for the better. There's a cracking set of walks out of Lampeter in West Wales, starting from behind Lampeter's night club (yes! 160;later this year. .
