The Treaty of Versailles ended World War I in 1919, but the peace was short lived. In the 1930s fascism was on the rise in Germany, Spain, Italy and Japan. By 1933 Adolph Hitler and his Nationalist Socialist Party (NAZI) were in power. General Franco and his Falange Party were conducting a civil war in Spain (1935-39). Hitler’s invasion of Poland in 1939 marks the onset of WW II (1939-1945) and the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese on December 7, 1941 brings the United States into the conflict.
