The National Avalanche School is a unique opportunity for those seeking professional training and development in the avalanche field. No other venue offers this level of interaction with nationally-recognized experts and instructors. The NAS includes four and a half days of classroom instruction in October. The classroom session offers intense learning and interaction in a lecture and workshop environment. The workshops give students an opportunity to discuss and clarify lecture concepts and to use those concepts in problem-solving and decision-making exercises. Students are trained according to current best practices in the snow and avalanche industry, utilizing US Observation Guidelines for Avalanche Programs in the United States. Chris works both as ski area avalanche forecaster for Jackson Hole Resort and as a backcountry forecaster for the Bridger-Teton National Forest Avalanche Center. He has a MS in Physical Geography with an emphasis on GIS. Chris developed an innovative GIS program that integrated historical weather and avalanche data for Jackson Hole Resort. He has been a field instructor for the NAS since 2001.
