January 1, 2013. Gallery contains 28 photos. Gallery last updated: 2/9/2013. This hike was an out-and-back hike from the Ballantine Trailhead to a trail intersection on east side of The Boulders and measured about 7.5 miles. The trail passes by some wonderful and unique boulder fields and formations. Much of the hike parallels Camp Creek drainage which dry on this day. Teddy Bear Cholla ( Opuntia bigelovii. Backlit by the morning sun atop a lichen covered boulder. With it's sphere of saw-toothed leaves.

As with many agave species notice the imprints of the outer leaves on the inner leaves.
