Mr Glyn's guitar repair. Sunday, 9 March 2014. Bouzouki/Gouzouki – an unusual modification. It was a lovely summers day when Jon Sanders brought this interesting job to me. That job was for a guitar and Mark wanted both E and A strings amplified seperately. I have a pickup winding m...

Mr Glyn's guitar repair: Guitar Tuners
http://mrglyn.blogspot.com/2015/03/guitar-tuners.html
Mr Glyn's guitar repair. Saturday, 7 March 2015. Guitar tuners are a fantastic tool. There are lots of them out there, these are just the ones I use. On stage I use the old faithful Boss TU-2. It's robust, the lights are bright, it's accurate enough and doesn't flicker about or give false readings. It's hard to fault the TU-2 for live use. My workshop tuner, however, needs to be the best I can get. My own pitch hearing is pretty average but some of my customers are very sensitive to pitch. Subscribe to: ...

Mr Glyn's guitar repair: October 2012

Mr Glyn's guitar repair. Saturday, 13 October 2012. Acoustic Guitar Pickups - LR Baggs Anthem. I often get asked what the best system is for amplifying an acoustic guitar. My answer is usually - how much do you want to spend and what do you plan to do with it? For recording I would always use an external mic (mixed with a touch of pickup too sometimes). But if you're playing live an external mic pins you to the spot - if you move at all the volume will change - that's where you need a pickup. Everything ...

Mr Glyn's guitar repair. Wednesday, 14 May 2014. Just a thought on Strap Locks. There are a lot of strap locks out there and most of them work well. My favourite of the 'bought' ones are Schaller. I don't use any of them though. I learned this little trick years ago:. 98 Les Paul std. They're bottle seals from the homebrew shop round the corner from my workshop. They're cheap (20 cents each! Mr Glyn's guitar repair. Saturday, 11 October 2014. My friend and long time customer Shannon Coulomb ( www.facebook.com/sematics. Popped into the workshop late last year. He's a great player with a fantastic ear so I was keen to get his opinion on one of my handbuilt guitars. This was the one he played:. It has a Carpathian (European) Spruce top, Australian Blackwood back and sides and Mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard and bridge. I use bone nut and saddle and stainless steel frets. Then in August he...

Mr Glyn's guitar repair. Thursday, 6 February 2014. A Mention in "The Herald". Thanks to Peter Calder from the New Zealand Herald for this article:. Peter Calder on life in New Zealand. Peter Calder: All for the sound and the story. Guitar maker and repairer Glyn Evans says a good luthier should respect an instrument's story. Photo / Dean Purcell. Stringed instruments are everywhere. A couple of pot-belly mandolins and a balalaika on high shelves await his attention, but they're his and he's too busy...

Mr Glyn's guitar repair: May 2012
http://mrglyn.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Mr Glyn's guitar repair. Wednesday, 9 May 2012. Gibson L-30, a love story. A few months ago a customer walked into my workshop with a very battered guitar. He'd found it in a landfill and it may have been there a while judging by its condition. The back was smashed, the top split but it was undeniably still a beauty. He'd already 'googled' it and knew what he had - a Gibson L-30 from 1938. He wanted a repair quote. He asked if I wanted to buy it, a price was fixed and he left it with me. Bit of a mess.

http://mrglyn.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Mr Glyn's guitar repair. Friday, 29 March 2013. Les Paul '79 - refret with a difference. A customer recently brought me a Les Paul Custom from 1979. He's owned the guitar a long time but in the last few years it's been relegated to the case. He wanted to be playing it again so brought it to me to get it back into playing condition. Its in desperate need of some care, love and a new set of frets. I've no idea. It would be a lot easier to just write the date there. Taking the back cover off I find the Fara...
