The founder of the Banteay Srey Project, Lisa Freya Metz, developed a lifelong interest in Cambodia as a child after her family adopted twin infant Khmer girls. Living extensively in Cambodia, and working at an orphanage, she has developed an appreciation and love of the Khmer culture and people, speaks Khmer, and spends much of her time in Kampot.
