Alabaster Mom: September 2014
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 24, 2014. I have to say that the visit was at once harrowing and informative. The orthodontist showed me a plaster cast of my daughter's mouth. I wish I had taken a photo of it. All I could think of was that old joke about "summer teeth." Summer here, summer there. Dr M told me that although he previously thought braces were a possibility, he could confirm that they are now a definite. The next eighteen months sound super fun:. Head gear for 12 hours a day. Alabaster Mom: July 2014
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 31, 2014. While she was in the class, I wandered around the store, talked on the phone, and then signed the kid up for another class in August. This one does require the use of a sewing machine. Two-toned pillowcase, here we come! I am hoping she will start to use her sewing machine and start creating stuff on her own. She and I have been watching Project Runway together and who knows, maybe she'll be on there someday! And I betcha Tim Gunn will look exactly the same in 15 years, too.

Alabaster Mom: Giddy Giddy Gumdrops
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2015/04/giddy-giddy-gumdrops.html
Sunday, April 12, 2015. After losing my last Boxer, Lucy Annabel, at just 8 1/2 years of age, having Gideon still with me at 11 feels like a bonus in many ways. Boxers usually live to 10-12 years of age, but cancer often takes them down sooner. I adopted Giddy a couple months after Lucy's death. I say that "I" adopted him because he's always been my boy. "Who's the goodest good boy in the whole world? I ask him. "Who's my sweet puppy? In some ways, his age has no effect on him. He still jumps into th...

Alabaster Mom: February 2015
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 25, 2015. But it's an improvement! I told her I needed shelving and she pointed to the shelving section. Then she lowered the boom: "While you're here, let me tell you about this great offer! I had to listen to a Direct TV schpiel. Son of a biscuit! She sped up her sales pitch and then handed me a brochure with her name and number on it. "That's Terry as in 'terrific,'" she said. "Not Terry as in 'terrible! I got home and snapped the shelves into place. Perfect! Next stop: painting th...

Alabaster Mom: Ignore the sobbing and wailing you heard
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2015/04/ignore-sobbing-and-wailing-you-heard.html
Monday, April 27, 2015. Ignore the sobbing and wailing you heard. And the lady replied, "Why would I do that? Can't you see that I'd only get $3.99 back? Anyway, I've temporarily given up on my quest. I have managed to lose a little weight over the past two months but it wasn't enough, apparently, to make swimsuit shopping bearable. This summer, I'm just going to wrap myself in a tarp and bob around in the ocean. (Do they make tarps with a racerback and underwires? Posted by Alabaster Mom.

Alabaster Mom: I know we *just* did this, but . . .
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2015/04/i-know-we-just-did-this-but.html
Sunday, April 19, 2015. I know we *just* did this, but . . . I headed to Home Depot on Friday evening to throw myself on the mercy of a very nice paint department guy. "I don't know what I'm doing," I told him, "but I want brown paint." I pointed to shade of brown from one of the five cards I had in my hand. There are a lot of shades of brown. I was looking for something like caramel, I guess. Sure thing, young lady," he said. Young lady. Ha ha ha! I also need some off-white paint for the ceiling," I said.

Alabaster Mom: A little note to my baby
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-little-note-to-my-baby.html
Sunday, May 3, 2015. A little note to my baby. Here you are, giving us the finger. So sweet! You're ten years old! I can hardly believe it. Double digits! Last week, we gave a couple of your old Dora items to a friend from church. You used to love Dora. Or Dura, as you called her. You used to watch the Backyardigans and mispronounce their names, too - Plablo and Migua come to mind. Happy 10th birthday to the girl who made all of my dreams come true. I love you the 'mostest.'. Alabaster Mom: Birthdays and Visitors and Stuff
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2015/05/birthdays-and-visitors-and-stuff.html
Friday, May 8, 2015. Birthdays and Visitors and Stuff. This just in: May is off to a great start. The snow has melted and we've had some truly beautiful days lately. I even planted some stuff. I may have gotten a little overzealous, though, and have some dead seedlings to show for it. Nothing like killing something that barely saw daylight, eh? I told my dad. He also fixed a light switch during his visit. The dining room light has not worked properly in years. But now it does! A speaker and a microphone&...

Alabaster Mom: Metal Mouth
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2015/04/metal-mouth.html
Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Okay, I'm officially out of slang terms for a kid with braces. We had our umpteenth visit to the orthodontist today. I've noticed that a lot of parents just drop their kids off, but we always stay with ours the whole time. She's our only child so I guess we just like to micromanage every situation that involves her. I don't really mind," she told me, shrugging. You can't argue with truth, I guess.
