Sunday, October 16, 2011. False Sense of Reality in "True Enough". Farhad Manjoo’s True Enough. Exposes the American public’s inability to think objectively, and how biases are subconsciously formed as individuals are fed information from different forms of media. Now more than ever, Americans are forced to question reality, as theories that seemingly have no factual evidence are accepted. The most that we can do is recognize that this false sense of reality is tearing society apart. Subconsciously, indi...

Victor's Blog: Bias in "True Enough"

Thursday, October 13, 2011. Bias in "True Enough". Reporters like Anderson Cooper have made it big by voicing their opinions. Cooper went after government officials during Hurricane Katrina because of their slow response time and urgency to aid disaster victims. As viewers, we like to listen to the viewpoints of those who agree with us, as they reinforce our already existing biases. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). False Sense of Reality in True Enough. Language & Power: Jerzday

In The Public Sphere. Thursday, November 3, 2011. In honor of the day of the week, I will discuss an article I found last week in the Times. At the UChicago Conference on Jersey Shore studies, (the fact that that exists baffles me), it was brought up that all the ruckus they caused in Italy was offensive to some Italian-Americans who watched from their couches. In The Public Sphere. Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Lfe wthout my Phone4. As you can see, something from the title is missing. That something is the letter "i". I stands for me, and without my iPhone, I must admit it to be fairly difficult to remember that at the moment, I do not have an iPhone in my possession. October 12, 2011 at 11:55 PM. Language & Power: Skewed Reality Presentation
http://rugolik93.blogspot.com/2011/10/skewed-reality-presentation.html
In The Public Sphere. Wednesday, October 19, 2011. About a year ago in Hunstville, Alabama, Kelly Dodson was attacked by a rapist in her own bedroom. WAFF News covered the story, and interviewed her brother, Antoine Dodson who candidly warns the rapist that he is appalled, to say the least. As Farhad Manjoo said in relevance to All in the Family, "Even when the whole country is watching the same thing, in fact, we aren't, not really. Not everyone in America got the joke" (74). I'll end this by quoting Ma...

Victor's Blog: "True Enough" First Glance
http://vdzenis.blogspot.com/2011/09/true-enough-first-glance.html
Thursday, September 29, 2011. True Enough" First Glance. After reading the first 25 pages of "True Enough" by Farhad Manjoo, I am excited to see how the book will play out. Manjoo brings up some very interesting points, such as how we are no longer "holding opinions different from one another; we're also holding different facts." How can we deny scientific fact and take a position that isn't backed by empirical evidence? And how are so many people drawn towards some opinions that seem so foolish?
