Run to Live: Surgery
http://brookswilliams.blogspot.com/2013/10/surgery.html
Monday, October 28, 2013. It's been two months since I last posted, and I wish I had better news to share. I spent 4 days in the hospital in late August to both improve my lung function and try to diagnose the worsening stomach issues. 4 hours of therapy a day, another colonoscopy, and a PICC line in my arm for two weeks and it looked like I might be doing better. While the pathology was still inconclusive, my condition was at least narrowed down to either Fibrosing Colonopathy or severe Chrohns. Surgery...

Run to Live: My Story
http://brookswilliams.blogspot.com/2009/04/my-story.html
Wednesday, April 29, 2009. Since this is my first post I should tell you a little bit about what makes me tick:. I had way too much living to do still, so that concept didn't work for me! As I've become stronger, and healthier, my mindset and goals have also evolved: I've transitioned from just wanting to be a finisher at these long distance races, to feeling like there's no reason I can't actually be competitive at them and potentially even begin winning events! Some of my racing accomplishments:. When ...

Run to Live: Worsening...
http://brookswilliams.blogspot.com/2013/08/worsening.html
Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Last time I posted, I'd just had my first colonoscopy and was optimistic of biopsy results that would explain what was going on in my gut, why I was so fatigued, and why I had lost so much weight. Since the stomach issues (thought to maybe be ulcerative colitis) haven't been fixed or improved, I now am fatigued all the time with no appetite, I crap bloody diarrhea 6-10 times a day, and I weigh 129 lbs (from 145). Good times, huh? Fingers crossed for better news next time I write.

Run to Live: Summertime. Life is good.
http://brookswilliams.blogspot.com/2014/07/summertime-life-is-good.html
Sunday, July 6, 2014. Summertime. Life is good. Wow Time really flies when you're having fun. I had no idea it had been 3 months since my last post, but it's not for lack of new stories and adventures. but rather, because I'm too busy living them! I had my crack at Hardrock in 2010, and was humbled with my first DNF after only 44 miles. In a coincidental turn of events, I'll get to pace Sharpie through the miles that immediately follow Ouray, the site of my throwing in the towel in '10. Can't wait. Wow, ...

Let's Run Homey!: June 2012
http://letsrunhomey.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Some notes about training and keeping the pup pooped. Friday, June 22, 2012. From crappie.com (really). That's pretty much it. Once Deneb is in school, I can easily find time here in Bolivia to train for Leadville (and perform the way I'd like), but right now, the pleas of, "Papa, peas don't go run." Are too much. Can't do it. Must sneak out during the nap. And the naps are getting shorter. Hopefully with Deneb pacing me for the last 50 meters. We'll see about that. Posted by Jay Austin. Day in the life.

I am never running another 100 again. Yeah. Right. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Leadville 100 Crew Report (2010). partial. 8220;So, 8 months ago, I met this asshole on plentyoffish.com…”. Andy helpfully offered this introduction to my crew report. He continued with, “then you could say, little did she know what she was getting herself into…”. The night before the race was a memorable one. I’m not sure what Andy did to himself, but my ghod, Annie and I suffered for it. At one point he pushed up t...8221; I cou...

I am never running another 100 again.... Yeah. Right.: Rocky Raccoon 100 Crew Report
http://melissacrewnotes.blogspot.com/2012/02/rocky-raccoon-100-crew-report.html
I am never running another 100 again. Yeah. Right. Tuesday, February 7, 2012. Rocky Raccoon 100 Crew Report. Aut viam inveniam aut faciam - "I shall either find a way or make one." . A proper title for a crew report about Rocky Raccoon 100 in 2012. Rocky Raccoon is a flat and fast course." Fast and flat my ass. More like hilly trails with seemingly endless stretches, switchbacks that make you scream ("Where the FUCK is that turn-around? And muddy bogs that would rival any tough mudder. One of my challeng...

I am never running another 100 again.... Yeah. Right.: Fruita 50 Mile Crew Report
http://melissacrewnotes.blogspot.com/2012/04/fu-fuck-u-fruita.html
I am never running another 100 again. Yeah. Right. Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Fruita 50 Mile Crew Report. Me (melting in the sun): "We're not the fucking Tarahumara Indians you know! Andy (looks himself up and down): "Yup. Definitely white.". He did keep going. He was one of the few who went back out there for a second lap. But this was one of those times when respecting the elements and understanding one's limits were vital to self-preservation. 19 miles to go. What do you do? We both feel that he made th...

Run to Live: Don't Call it a Comeback (Been Here for Years)
http://brookswilliams.blogspot.com/2014/03/dont-call-it-comeback-been-here-for.html
Monday, March 31, 2014. Don't Call it a Comeback (Been Here for Years). Last time I posted, I was proudly announcing my first 3 mile run post-surgery. A lot has changed since then. This has forced a totally new mindset as it relates to running, specifically, I've decided to start counting PR's as pre-surgery and post-surgery. I ran the St Patty's Day 5k a couple weeks ago. It took me 20:40. NEW PS (post surgery) PR! I ran a 5 mile run in 37 minutes last week. NEW PS PR! This last weekend was no exception...
