Bee Facts | A Swarm and Fuzzy Feeling
https://aswarmandfuzzyfeeling.wordpress.com/bee-facts
A Swarm and Fuzzy Feeling. Adventures in Backyard Beekeeping. A running list of fascinating bee facts:. Bees have FIVE eyes! You can clearly see the two compound eyes on the sides of their heads for color and distance vision, but honeybees also have three light-sensing eyes on their forehead that pick up on daylight and darkness but no color. Swarming is a natural part of bee behavior–and is actually a sign that a colony is doing well and needs more space! Another thing drones can’t do? How long is that?

Havenwood: January 2013
http://havenwoodhouse.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Two suburbanite boomers throw caution to the wind, postpone retirement, and move to a farm in Indiana. There they intend to live happily ever after. Thursday, January 31, 2013. Retirement in 10 . 9 . 8 After this one, there are only eight weeks left before I walk out of an office for the last time. February and March. That's it. And I can't begin to describe how very strange, how unreal this feels. And it gets worse: The Hubby. He's old too! We Are. OLD. I can't believe it happened, not to US. I'm trying...

Two suburbanite boomers throw caution to the wind, postpone retirement, and move to a farm in Indiana. There they intend to live happily ever after. Saturday, March 30, 2013. All The Time in the World. I am officially RETIRED. Yesterday I cleared out my desk, said my farewells, and walked out of a grim, gray cube farm into a glorious early spring day. I shed no tears. I did not look back. And now that it's a done deal, all I can think about it is, What the hell took me so long? Links to this post. Worryi...

Saturday, June 22, 2013. The Second Day of Summer. I guess it's only fitting that we experienced the highs and lows of beekeeping on the second official day of summer. Our first stop this morning was the newest beeyard, located in Starkville. The bees are putting up honey like crazy! This is the "before" picture. We added honey supers, checked all of the hives to make sure they were queen-right, and sweated through our clothes. Beautiful honey with "wet" cappings. Mark quickly removed his gloves . &#...

Prairie Blossom Bee Farm: Bees are a Few of My Favorite Things
http://prairieblossombeefarm.blogspot.com/2013/04/bees-are-few-of-my-favorite-things.html
Friday, April 12, 2013. Bees are a Few of My Favorite Things. Beekeeping is not my only interest. In fact, it's very recent compared to my interest in children's books and writing. This week I'm combining them! This week I wrote a poem in response to another poet's work. You can read about it at my other blog, www.KeriRecommends.com. Or, you can read the poem, below. Bees are a Few of My Favorite Things. By Keri Collins Lewis. Worker bees flying so busy and buzzy. Bees are a few of my favorite things.
The Novice Beekeeper: A day of hive maintenance
http://novicebeekeeper.blogspot.com/2010/04/day-of-hive-maintenance.html
Here you can follow my adventures as I learn the art of wholistic beekeeping. Welcome to The Novice Beekeeper. Tuesday, April 27, 2010. A day of hive maintenance. After weeks of rain we had a sunny day, so we made the most of it and headed out to check the hives. We'd decided to try to get out there (weather permitting) once a fortnight just to check the small hive beetle traps and to see how they are going and if they need harvesting. We have small hive beetles in our hives, but they seem to be being ke...
The Novice Beekeeper: December 2010
http://novicebeekeeper.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Here you can follow my adventures as I learn the art of wholistic beekeeping. Welcome to The Novice Beekeeper. Friday, December 31, 2010. On December 15 we had an opportunity to get out and harvest some honey from our hives so we went for it. It's been raining here pretty much all year - I'm not joking! Miserable for us stuck inside and miserable for the bees too I imagine. The rain washes the nectar and honey from the hives and they just don't get the runs of fine days to work their magic. Subscribe to:...

Here you can follow my adventures as I learn the art of wholistic beekeeping. Welcome to The Novice Beekeeper. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. A winter solstic update. We'll its been a while between posts but things have been going well with our small apiary. We still have four healthy hives - and we're still harvesting plenty of honey from them. Just this month we harvested 30kgs from them and they quickly sold at our local markets on the weekend. We keep European Honey Bees and Australian Native Stingless Bees.
