Random wafflings about real ale and good pubs, from a girl's point of view. Manchester and Buxton pubs. Last month we took a trip to Manchester, and then to Buxton in the Peak District. Here are some of the pubs we visited. Port Street Beer House. Beer Studio, photo credit: http:/ www.thebeerstudiofallowfield.co.uk. We were lucky enough to arrive in Manchester on the day this new beer bar was opening. We just happened to be in Beermoth. Night and Day Cafe. Ourthouse Wine and Coffee Bar. You are commentin...
More Norfolk Pubs | Beer Talk
https://beertalk.wordpress.com/2012/06/16/more-norfolk-pubs
Random wafflings about real ale and good pubs, from a girl's point of view. Last year I wrote a post about visiting some of the many Norfolk pubs. Well, I have been back to Norfolk, and surprise, surprise, I visited more pubs. Some were the same old favourites like the Fat Cat. The Plough and the Brick Kilns, but many were different. Here are some of the new pubs I visited. The Murderers / Gardeners Arms, Norwich. The Murderers / Gardeners Arms. The White Lion, Norwich. The Plasterers Arms, Norwich.

https://beertalk.wordpress.com/2014/12/30/golden-pints-2014
Random wafflings about real ale and good pubs, from a girl's point of view. It’s that time of year again when I rack my brains trying to remember the best beers I have tried over the last year to nominate for the Golden Pints awards. So here are my choices. I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few good ones, but that’s probably because I was having such a nice time drinking them that I never noted them down. Best UK cask beer. Best UK keg beer. Magic Rock/Toccalmatto Custard Pie. Best UK bottled/canned beer. Magic ...
The Liberty Belle Micropub, Ely | Beer Talk
https://beertalk.wordpress.com/2015/03/11/the-liberty-belle-micropub-ely
Random wafflings about real ale and good pubs, from a girl's point of view. The Liberty Belle Micropub, Ely. On a visit to the cathedral city of Ely, Cambridgeshire, we headed to the Liberty Belle. The Liberty Belle is a lovely atmospheric pub, and the window seats are perfect for watching the world go by. It would be great to see more free-of-tie micropubs popping up to rival the big pub chains which seem to be dominating the towns and cities nowadays. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window).
Yorkshire Dales pubs | Beer Talk
https://beertalk.wordpress.com/2014/12/31/yorkshire-dales-pubs
Random wafflings about real ale and good pubs, from a girl's point of view. This pub/hotel in the little village close to Aysgarth is famous for being the honeymoon destination for James Herriot and his wife – this is displayed on the front of the hotel and elsewhere so you can’t fail to notice this. This lovely old whitewashed pub in a pretty cobbled village which felt miles from anywhere is a proper down to earth boozer with locals chatting at the bar. Very lemony and grapefruity, on a nice delicate bo...

Tandleman's Beer Blog: Do We Like That One?
http://tandlemanbeerblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/do-we-like-that-one.html
Tandleman's Random and Particular Thoughts on Beer. Monday, 27 July 2015. Do We Like That One? I'm not a drinker of own brand beers really. I kind of think they are likely to be not very good with one or two exceptions. These exceptions are usually where a very good brewery has been commissioned to produce a particular kind of beer as part of a range. But what about those low end "cooking lagers" which aren't brands, but are set up to compete with "brands"? First up was Galahad Lager. Gives every impress...

Tandleman's Beer Blog: Bass in the Sun
http://tandlemanbeerblog.blogspot.com/2015/06/bass-in-sun.html
Tandleman's Random and Particular Thoughts on Beer. Monday, 15 June 2015. Bass in the Sun. You don't encounter Draught Bass that often these days in my experience. I know of a couple of places where it is sold, but I wouldn't go there just to seek the beer out as such. It wasn't always so. I used to make many a pilgrimage to the White Star. On a gorgeous summer's day last week, I was meeting a friend in Helensburgh, a town I know well from my youth in the West of Scotland. The Commodore Hotel. Draught Ba...

Tandleman's Beer Blog: Another Thing the Pub is Best For
http://tandlemanbeerblog.blogspot.com/2015/07/another-thing-pub-is-best-for.html
Tandleman's Random and Particular Thoughts on Beer. Wednesday, 29 July 2015. Another Thing the Pub is Best For. One of our Sunday table from the Tandle Hill Tavern has died. We knew it was coming and so did he. Yesterday after his funeral we met, not at the Tavern, but at the nearby Ship, thus allowing the landlord of the THT to join us to see the lad off in a style he'd have liked. We had a piss up. Sounds like the perfect send off for a pub man. 29 July 2015 at 22:46. 30 July 2015 at 08:57. Nautical vi...
My world of beer: Treat Night
http://beer-writings.blogspot.com/2015/06/treat-night.html
My world of beer. Views, news and reviews about beer and the places where beer is bought and consumed. Friday, 26 June 2015. A 90% ABV Belgian tripel that I find to be even better than most of the tripels that come out of Belgium and certainly the best I have discovered from any UK brewer. I have reviewed this beer in the past which you can read here. If you so wish. It is certainly a treat. Tonight I have lined up a couple of beers from London brewer Weird Beard. http://beer-writings.blogspot.com/2015/06/top-sussex-pubs.html
My world of beer. Views, news and reviews about beer and the places where beer is bought and consumed. Monday, 8 June 2015. I started with the nearest pub to home. The Parsonage Bar. Brewery was a superb oatmeal stout and was in perfect condition. However, I did find the pub itself a bit cliquey and lacking atmosphere. Perhaps you have to be a local to appreciate it. To the rear the conservatory is a real sun-trap and the garden is large and sunny too. Overall it is a very pleasant country pub of whic...
