I addressed how I came about implementing a steel band and how you can, too. In this post, I’ll share my “why.”. There are three convergent reasons I started a steel band after arriving at Adams State University. I’ll briefly explain:. 1 To build a percussion program, you need a program. Percussion Resources For All Learners. I recognize that the knowledge I have does not belong to me and I am indebted to the innumerable teachers, mentors and colleagues who poured themselves into me. I see myself not as a reservoir, but as a river, with that knowledge flowing out to those around me. My primary motivation is adding value to the lives of my students. Everything in which I invest myself is a part of that, whether in creating resources, teaching directly, or expanding my own abilities.

Percussion Resources For All Learners. Inner Peace and Lightning Speed Through Slow Practice. June 16, 2015. Lots of people talk and write about slow practice. There are many good reasons to use it, and many reasons not to. This week I seem to be teaching a lot on one thing in particular:. Slow practice makes you THINK differently. When I learn a piece fast, I conceive of it as fast. I move fast, think fast and get kind of twitchy just thinking about it. More than the above though, you develop a way of T...
