At The Indie, the overall male and female winners of the 10k and 5k will receive a personalized gold record signifying their historic achievements as well as a cash prize. Former shelter dog to serve as 2016 mascot. The votes are in, and a former shelter dog will serve as the 2016 mascot of The Indie, a neighborhood road race set for Sunday, July 31. The event, hosted by the Benson Neighborhood Association as part of the 2016 Benson Days celebration, includes a 10K, a 5K, a one-mile fun run and a kids’ dash. A portion of the proceeds will be used for neighborhood improvement projects. Local bicycling advocate Harry Baulisch, who lives with the winner, shares her story:.

Join the indie race crew. Have fun while helping. If you aren’t into running – or jogging or walking briskly – why not volunteer on race day? Volunteers are needed for the following positions:. Race Route Set Up. Assist in setting up the race routes by placing cones on the street and marking turns (starts early). Assist with the set up and operations of the kid’s dash at 9:15am. Very fun! Assist runners with getting their T-shirts and bibs. Sign up runners the day of the race to run.
