Road of Iron: July 2004
http://lotstreetwiz.blogspot.com/2004_07_01_archive.html
Notions and observations on training for a distant Ironman triathlon, and all that entails (running, cycling, swimming, lots of other stuff), and on Toronto, travel, and what I might call my life. Tuesday, July 13, 2004. I’ve been thinking about street names. In the 19th century, many of Toronto’s mundane or utilitarian street names were lost in a kind of obeisance to the British aristocracy: Lot Street (what could be more mundane than that? Became Queen Street, Hospital Street became Richmond Street.

Notions and observations on training for a distant Ironman triathlon, and all that entails (running, cycling, swimming, lots of other stuff), and on Toronto, travel, and what I might call my life. Saturday, April 29, 2006. The official Road of Iron calendar! After Walt Mossberg’s glowing review of Google Calendar. In Thursday’s Wall Street Journal. I checked it out. It is pretty cool. Once you’ve opened Google Calendar, there’s a little box labelled Search public calendars. Just type "road of iron".

Road of Iron: November 2006

Notions and observations on training for a distant Ironman triathlon, and all that entails (running, cycling, swimming, lots of other stuff), and on Toronto, travel, and what I might call my life. Saturday, November 04, 2006. Does it pay to complain sometimes? Personally, I think crashing is part of cycling. I think one of the cyclist’s jobs is dealing with imperfect road surfaces. So when I crashed. And yesterday in the mail was a cheque. What a pleasant surprise! Posted by LotStreetWiz at 6:11 PM.

Road of Iron: October 2006

Notions and observations on training for a distant Ironman triathlon, and all that entails (running, cycling, swimming, lots of other stuff), and on Toronto, travel, and what I might call my life. Saturday, October 28, 2006. Considering that I’m not working out, it seems odd that I’m so tired all the time. Friday evening, watching SportsCentre. On the Sports Network. I mounted my bike on the trainer. One of my favourite magazines, Cycling Plus. Do I have a good trainer? Do I have the right technique?

Swim, bike, run AND give back: December 2011
http://rhysspencer.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 30, 2011. My thoughts on "what it takes" for a fast Ironman. I have been reading the past week on various internet forums experts espousing their knowledge on what it takes to be fast at Ironman racing. Some are very, very scientific in their espousing; others very basic in their philosophy; many outwardly claim the other person is flat out wrong while they are right. Or Coach Paulo Sousa. Second, the notion of the Joel Friel's Triathlete Bible. So what the hell am I getting at here?

Road of Iron: Box-Box- Boxing Day
http://lotstreetwiz.blogspot.com/2008/12/box-box-boxing-day.html
Notions and observations on training for a distant Ironman triathlon, and all that entails (running, cycling, swimming, lots of other stuff), and on Toronto, travel, and what I might call my life. Monday, December 29, 2008. Today is December 29, but it feels like Boxing Day (Dec. 26; a term Americans don’t use, but a statutory holiday in Canada. So I’ve had two public holidays (Dec. 25 and 26), two weekend days (Dec. 27 and 28), and today (Dec. 29) a vacation. A fairly straightforward work-out (15 min wa...

Notions and observations on training for a distant Ironman triathlon, and all that entails (running, cycling, swimming, lots of other stuff), and on Toronto, travel, and what I might call my life. Tuesday, April 05, 2005. My dad and cycling. Watching the World Track Cycling Championships, which I did this weekend past in Los Angeles, somehow reminded me of my dad in relation to cycling. I came to cycling early. I think - although I’m not sure - that I was five years old when I first rode a bike.

Road of Iron: May 2005
http://lotstreetwiz.blogspot.com/2005_05_01_archive.html
Notions and observations on training for a distant Ironman triathlon, and all that entails (running, cycling, swimming, lots of other stuff), and on Toronto, travel, and what I might call my life. Sunday, May 22, 2005. It’s never a good idea to take your eyes off the road. Potholes and ridges appear unexpectedly. I bunny-hopped one chasm on Unwin Avenue, but my rear wheel caught it anyway. Yesterday I saw a frog (Mona thinks a leopard frog) on the Don Trail a few hundred yards below the Forks. On Mother’...

On 2011 August 9 Tuesday. I’m not a flower person, so I can’t tell you what this is. But I can tell you it was growing through a fence on Muriel Avenue 2 short blocks from my home in East York.*.
