On the cusp of adventure…Alba bound! October 2, 2014. Off on another adventure! Well, I’m sitting here at the airport contemplating the adventure upon which I’m about to embark. Several years ago I probably would never have even considered flying over 4,000 miles away to ramble through the Scottish Highlands on my own (for the first week at least), but this is yet another thing you can chalk up to Diana Gabaldon writing a book. From Lobster to Sardines – Vacation Day 1 Portland to Lubec. July 5, 2014. The downside to this plan is that we spend a couple of days on the road, although the drive could be made in one day if necessary. However, this is vacation and Mom and I see no need to hurry. The upside to this plan is that we get to take our time traveling from Portland to Cape Breton and we always try to find interesting places to stay. South Freeport, Maine Harbor. Walkway to the Lobster Pound at Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster.

Fàilte Dachaigh (Welcome Home) – Lubec to Cape Breton – Vacation Day 2. July 6, 2014. Woke up early this morning. I never seem to remember how much earlier the sun rises this far north. After some checking of the current weather situation re: Arthur, and a quick consultation with Dad back home, Mom and I decided to forgo our planned stop in Moncton, New Brunswick and drive all the way to Cape Breton. Waiting for the Deer Island Ferry. First one on means being the first car off! A very serene way to travel.

Traces of Old World Culture in New Scotland – Jigs and Reels. July 11, 2014. Among my favorite traditions are the almost daily Celtic Square Dances that are held in Parish Halls and Recreation Centers around the island. Almost any night of the week you can find a dance somewhere Mondays are Brook Village, Thursdays are Glencoe Mills and West Mabou on Saturday nights. There are groups of people ‘from away’ as Cape Bretoners call tourists and locals as well, who spend the week going. Follow me on Twitter.

From singing in the pub to singing in the rain…Days 1 and 2 in Scotland. October 5, 2014. So last we spoke, I was sitting in the airport waiting to board a flight for Scotland. Let me assure you, this is absolutely the first moment I have been still yet awake in the last 48 hours. I hit the ground running in Glasgow about 1 pm local time yesterday and have only stopped for about 7 hours sleep since! Luckily jet lag doesn’t seem to be an issue. I guess adrenaline can counteract the effects of jet lag.
