Travels through the magical world of fabric, thread and fibre. Tuesday, 17 May 2011. Chapter 6 Applique squares - notes. Technically, I didn't have any difficulties with this exercise as I was familiar with the methods. I viewed it as an opportunity to experiment. With colours and fabrics. My favourites were squares (4) and (6) as I felt the different elements of colour, shape and texture combined best. Finally, I am pleased to say that I was disciplined enough with the. Glue on the ironing! It all togeth...

Travels through the magical world of fabric, thread and fibre. Wednesday, 16 May 2012. Composite Sheet Module 1 Stars. Looking through my portfolio of work, the recurring motif that emerged was the 'estoile' or curved ray star. The star with three rays- a relatively simple shape- lent itself to numerous variations in the cut and fold exercises. By orientating it differently or changing the way the paper was folded, I could produce infinite derivative. Monday, 14 May 2012. Inlay Applique Chapter 10. I deci...

Bewitched by Stitch: Chapter 8 Complex Samples 5 and 6
http://bewitchedbystitch.blogspot.com/2012/04/chapter-8-complex-samples-5-and-6.html
Travels through the magical world of fabric, thread and fibre. Tuesday, 17 April 2012. Chapter 8 Complex Samples 5 and 6. The inspiration behind this piece was the furled petal shape of a flower on the initial photographic collage of star shapes. I padded the centre and then bonded it to the finished. I enjoyed using a new set of 'dabber' type. Tiny stamps to overprint my hand dyed. Stitch. The centre shape is padded and I've discovered some fabrics lend themselves more easily to this technique. Simple te...

This is a record of my work on the Distant Stitch Level 3 Certificate. Thursday, 23 July 2009. Yes, I went off on a tangent after last year's summer school, and pursued my Creative Dialogue with my husband, David. Sian approved this for progressing my Module 4, but I stalled when I had to come up with more technical solutions. However, I have now finished the piece and I thought those who have been to this year's summer school may like to see it. Here it is:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Ive been stitchin...

Stephanie's stitching: I swam the Channel!
http://sjmdistantstitch.blogspot.com/2012/02/i-swam-channel.html
This is a record of my work on the Distant Stitch Level 3 Certificate. Tuesday, 28 February 2012. I swam the Channel! Oh, the other reason for lack of postings last year was because I was busy completing the Aspire Channel Swim, fundraising for spinally injured people. And I swam to France and back - 2832 lengths in my local swimming pool, in ten weeks. Work that out, that's nearly 300 lengths a week - well two weeks I did far less, and other weeks I did far more. This is a record of my work on the Distant Stitch Level 3 Certificate. Tuesday, 26 July 2011. After a busy weekend I had to move the plum to a different room, and the light was casting shadow from a slightly different angle. I had placed my plum on a white sheet of A6 paper, and I rotated this to achieve a more complete shadow. So you need to look at this one from a different angle:. Here's the sketchbook page scanned on the straight:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Threading on thin ice.

I’ve kept reading away but not managed to write reviews or comments. I’ve been bewitched by a short story, though and felt inspired to write My Thoughts on David Malouf’s A First Place.
