Paris Restaurants and Beyond: Neige d'été -Mono no aware in action
http://parisrestaurantreviewsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2015/06/neige-dete-mono-no-aware-in-action.html
Paris Restaurants and Beyond. Sunday, June 14, 2015. Neige d'été -Mono no aware in action. The Japanese aesthetical concept of mono no aware. Literally translates as the bittersweet awareness of the transience of things, signifying a sad, fleeting beauty that is conspicuous in traditional Japanese cultural expressions. And it is no surprise that this notion kept coming to mind during last Saturday evening's dinner at Co.'s latest Paris discovery, Neige d'ete. 70 euro menu, page 1 (click to enlarge).

Paris Restaurants and Beyond: 16 Haussmann - Not Quite Sweet 16
http://parisrestaurantreviewsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2008/04/16-haussmann-not-quite-sweet-16.html
Paris Restaurants and Beyond. Saturday, April 12, 2008. 16 Haussmann - Not Quite Sweet 16. If only I had known how excellent the praline croustillant dessert was going to be, I would have ordered three and called it a night. As it was, Co. and I ran the gamut of 16 Haussmann's three-course fixed price menu (37€ each) and wound up fairly disappointed. Not to say it wasn’t a pleasant evening. The room itself—designed by Philippe Stark—is. And the Opéra Garnier. And therein lies our tale. The first thing we...

Paris Restaurants and Beyond: Aux Deux Amis - Is That a Herring On the Floor or Are You Just Happy to See Me?
http://parisrestaurantreviewsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2011/02/aux-deux-amis-is-that-herring-on-floor.html
Paris Restaurants and Beyond. Saturday, February 26, 2011. Aux Deux Amis - Is That a Herring On the Floor or Are You Just Happy to See Me? Following two immensely satisfying return visits to La Table D'Eugene. But was it us four English speaking diners that led to the 25€ 'mistake' charged for the wine? Take a 70's-like bistro, put smart wines on the counter, cook classic radishes or modern wasabi codfish, add a former waiter of Le Chateaubriand: you get the perfect new food hang-out of the year.'. Resta...

Paris Restaurants and Beyond: Kings of the Bs : Le Baratin and Bigarrade
http://parisrestaurantreviewsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2009/02/kings-of-bs-le-baratin-and-bigarrade.html
Paris Restaurants and Beyond. Monday, February 9, 2009. Kings of the Bs : Le Baratin and Bigarrade. The nouvelle vague (Bigarade) vs. the institution (Le Baratin), the former before the new year and the latter last weekend. Both visits were highly anticipated, given the laudatory reviews I’ve come across for both in recent months. I cut to the chase. Bigarrade was a reasonable alternative to my first choice, last season’s absolute must(! Christophe PELE opened Bigarrade in 2007 and he pairs up with Giuli...

Paris Restaurants and Beyond: L’Écu de France (Reprise) - Form Follows Function
http://parisrestaurantreviewsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2010/08/lecu-de-france-reprise-form-follows.html
Paris Restaurants and Beyond. Sunday, August 29, 2010. L’Écu de France (Reprise) - Form Follows Function. Now, I hope you are sitting down, because this time I took photos! Here's the Asiatic-leaning mise-en-bouche:. First course - Co. opted for the Millefeuille de Foie gras de Canard et magret fumé,. Pain d’épice à la saubressade, jus au caramel (18€) and I selected Filet de Daurade Royale, consommé froid d’algue et Thon séché marinade de légumes au thé vert (15€):. Not to be denied, my espresso came wi...

Paris Restaurants and Beyond: L’Aiguière - Wake Me Up When It's Over
http://parisrestaurantreviewsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2008/06/laiguire-wake-me-up-when-its-over.html
Paris Restaurants and Beyond. Monday, June 30, 2008. L’Aiguière - Wake Me Up When It's Over. Fresh off the heels of our rustic dinner in the countryside, the choice last weekend was restaurant L’Aiguière which, according to the review posted at their website, offers “low wooden beams, a rustic atmosphere, beautiful, soft music playing in the background,” “like you are out in the French countryside, with picturesque windowsills looking out into a quite Parisian street.”. Give me a break! Now on to the food.

Paris Restaurants and Beyond: Agapes – Pour the Wine, Hold the Kids
http://parisrestaurantreviewsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2010/05/agapes-pour-wine-hold-kids.html
Paris Restaurants and Beyond. Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Agapes – Pour the Wine, Hold the Kids. Agapes – sounds familiar, doesn’t it? The Bourgueil effectively washed down a tasty but unspectacular three course menu, priced at 30€. (The restaurant also offers a market-determined 5-course ‘Menu Gourmand’ at 56€, including apératif and café). [No food photos, but I swiped a couple representative images from the Agapes website.] I started off with an entrée of rouget barbet,. 8217; So usually when we leave a ...

Paris Restaurants and Beyond: Paris Restaurant Musings at the End of a Decade
http://parisrestaurantreviewsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2009/12/paris-restaurant-musings-at-end-of.html
Paris Restaurants and Beyond. Saturday, December 26, 2009. Paris Restaurant Musings at the End of a Decade. I promised to continue my tour of the rue Oberkampf restaurant scene and, as far as I’m concerned, a promise is a promise. A couple years ago, Le Café Charbon. Location in the city during the Spring of 2008. Am I out of the loop, or am I out of the loop? This is the sort of place that positively reeks of old Paris. Think simplicity, authenticity, cheap. My shrimp appetizer, for example, con...Oberk...

Paris Restaurants and Beyond: Auberge Nicolas Flamel – Sweet Home Virginia
http://parisrestaurantreviewsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2008/03/auberge-nicolas-flamel-sweet-home.html
Paris Restaurants and Beyond. Monday, March 3, 2008. Auberge Nicolas Flamel – Sweet Home Virginia. So many restaurants, so little time: Several restaurant visits since Les Magnolias but no time to write about them. Time to start rectifying that. And I’ll begin with the visit to Auberge Nicolas Flamel on Feb. 15, a restaurant I had never heard of until I came across a mention in the Parler Paris online newsletter ( http:/ www.parlerparis.com/. Here is Leeds’ description of Auberge:. I also wouldn’t ...

Paris Restaurants and Beyond: Second Helpings
http://parisrestaurantreviewsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2010/12/second-helpings.html
Paris Restaurants and Beyond. Thursday, December 9, 2010. Almost a month since my last installment, so a lot of catching up to do. I'll begin with some repeat visits, three to be exact. Two mainstays (Au Petit Margery and Le Marsangy) and one 'not sure' (Urbane). You'll find expanded reviews, albeit earlier ones, by following the links on the right. But without further adieu, I begin with my second visit to Urbane. Next up was Au Petit Marguery. In the 11th. It's a shame that Marsangy boasts one of t...
