Erin's Blog: E-Journaling - Week 12
http://erin-ling487.blogspot.com/2010/04/e-journaling.html
Thursday, April 1, 2010. E-Journaling - Week 12. The article, “A Web-Based Approach to Strategic Learning of Speech Acts” by Cohen and Ishihara, discusses how researchers had students use e-journaling as a way to reflect on their learning strategies when dealing with different speech acts. This e-journaling provided a way for students to communicate and for the researchers to gain insight into what the students were thinking and how they were incorporating what they were learning. Thursday, April 1, 2010. April 1, 2010 at 10:47 AM. Deena, I like your idea of a scavenger hunt and using that as a way for students to create e-journals. It would be great way to motivate students to both read and write as well as introduce them to some of the local culture. April 1, 2010 at 2:17 PM. April 6, 2010 at 1:41 PM. CALL: Computer mediated communication
http://miglenan01.blogspot.com/2010/03/computer-mediated-communication.html
Wednesday, March 10, 2010. The reading for this week tends to answer the question whether chatting holds the same potential for the development of grammatical competence as oral interaction. Would you use computer mediated communication to supplement face to face interaction in your classroom? Does CMC have more or less benefits when compared with face to face oral communication (in terms of negotiation of meaning and development of grammatical competence)? March 16, 2010 at 9:59 PM. Tuesday, April 13, 2010. Blog #13 Second Life. April 24, 2010 at 10:02 AM. I agree with you that using technology that allows students to communicate face to face in the real world may be more beneficial than using avatars in Second Life. Using avatars takes away the factor of non-verbal communication which is so important in langugae learning. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What is LectureTools 2.0? CALL Class at UIC. Wednesday, March 31, 2010. March 31, 2010 at 7:59 PM. Hey Bailey. Thats a cool writing assignment and potentially very engaging for students assuming they get matched with someone with some similar interests. Do you think that it helps with oral language skills? April 1, 2010 at 2:20 PM. Well, I think advancing in any skill consequently benefits the other ones. In any direct way though, I would say no. It is definitely focused on improving writing skills.
