Bicycle Rehabilitation Project: Best Day Yet?
http://bicyclerehabilitationproject.blogspot.com/2007/09/best-day-yet.html
News and notes about the Bicycle Rehabilitation Project. Saturday, September 29, 2007. I've spent most of the summer looking forward to today. Last night I finally slipped across the Nova Scotia - Newfoundland border and arrived in Port-Aux-Basques. I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive - after everywhere I've been and everything I've seen on this trip how would Newfoundland stack up? I remembered it - especially this southwest corner - as one if the most spectacular places I've ever been.

The Grey Islands: September 2011
http://thegreyislands.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 7, 2011. I've just gotten back from my second trip to the Grey Islands this summer and I am happy to say that my camera worked fine this time around (in fact I got a brand new camera just in time for the trip). So here are some pics and notes about the adventure! We got into Conche at about 3pm and found this little iceberg (and bergy bits) in the cove:. The boat ride was amazing! We eventually reloaded the kiln and tried another firing:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Was a three-month...
Shards: Real Astronomy
http://ceramicshards.blogspot.com/2013/07/real-astronomy.html
Wednesday, July 31, 2013. I did finally get a chance to do some real astronomy. On Peckford Island I had the luxury of a cabin to sleep in and a breezy beach to photograph from, which kept the discomforts of sleeping on the ground and the mosquitos to a minimum. It was also amazingly dark and clear out there, so I really enjoyed my night. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Shards is a summer-long project where I will be exploring the ceramic detritus of the Newfoundland landscape. During this time I...
Shards: August 2013
http://ceramicshards.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 15, 2013. Of the buffalo experiment is a must read). On the away out I decided to leave it for a future visit. I met several of Simeon Snook's descendants during my few days in the area. The night before I went to Sagona there was a terrifying electrical storm over my campsite. The community is gone, but something ineffable remains. There is also a lighthouse, and though it is newer than the other buildings in the community it has also fallen into complete disrepair. And I made this imag...

The Grey Islands: Game On!
http://thegreyislands.blogspot.com/2010/11/game-on.html
Tuesday, November 9, 2010. I've just about got my Settlers of Grey Islands game finished. All that is left to do is to print some more cards and cut them out. Below are some pics of the game as it is now, and an invitation to Mixer, a faculty/staff exhibition at Grenfell College where I will be showing the game. And - it's interactive! That's right, if you are in Corner Brook and want to play a game while it's in the gallery just pop down and it can be arranged! September 26, 2011 at 1:06 PM.
Shards: Fair Island
http://ceramicshards.blogspot.com/2013/07/fair-island.html
Friday, July 26, 2013. He enjoyed hearing about my travels and my project, and was determined to give me some assistance. "Paul's Island, in Bonavista Bay, is covered with shards end to end." I like getting local knowledge in this little mission of mine. We talked until the twilight faded, when I retreated to the campsite I had scouted out earlier. There was little beach to speak of on Fair Island, just smooth granite sloping down into the sea. But sand gathered in the cracks between the rocks, and o...
Shards: June 2013
http://ceramicshards.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 30, 2013. Transportation is turning out to be more of an issue than I had imagined. I was lucky to meet Eugene who brought me to Sandy Point, and even luckier, I realize now, to have found a ride to Grand Bruit. But no matter how hard I tried, a lift from Grand Bruit to Burgeo could not be borrowed, bought or begged (and trust me, I tried all three). Saturday, June 29, 2013. They also showed me around their place (although I've been there before) and I just had to snap some pics of their sha...
The Grey Islands: June 2011
http://thegreyislands.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 23, 2011. The Pots Are Glazed And Ready To Go! Here are some pics of the pots I'm bringing to the Grey Islands with me. If everything goes as planned I should be out there on Tuesday morning, and back by Sunday morning. Although I gotta say, I wouldn't mind getting stranded by the weather for a few days. Sunday, June 19, 2011. So in the next couple weeks you can expect there will be a few more posts on the blog with pictures and tales from the Grey Islands. Stay tuned! While I made and doc...
The Grey Islands: Earl
http://thegreyislands.blogspot.com/2010/08/earl.html
Tuesday, August 31, 2010. My weekend jaunt to the Grey Islands seems to be in considerable jeopardy due to Hurricane Earl. The latest track forecasts have the the storm passing either to the east, the west, or directly over, the Grey Islands on Saturday evening or Sunday morning. Not exactly a good time to go camping or be out in boat. So, I would say, in all likelihood the trip will be cancelled. I will have to amuse myself by looking at these.
