Jean Bradbury: January 2013
http://jeanbradbury.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Under the Arc of the Sky Number Two. I'm still painting chickens. It's still winter. Posted by Safi Crafts. Thursday, January 24, 2013. The fabric crumples up and springs back perfectly flat. I wonder what will happen if I paint it all with polyurathane to seal the charcoal. It might all smudge into a grey smear. Stay tuned. Posted by Safi Crafts. Saturday, January 19, 2013. Under the Arc of the Sky. Under the arc of the sky they are unsafe. Posted by Safi Crafts. Kenna Guizio ...

Jean Bradbury: February 2015
http://jeanbradbury.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 19, 2015. This painting practically painted itself. The inspired choice of magpies and daisies requested by my client for her new residence worked very well with the 'silver' leaf. I love Chrysanthemum leaves, though it is foolish to set myself up in comparison with the incomparable William Morris. Posted by Safi Crafts. Friday, February 13, 2015. This is the original sketch for the client. This is about as detailed as I ever get with sketches - and often I don't use them at all. I lik...

Monday, June 24, 2013. Wendy's Garden" is finished! Wendy has been very patient with me while I took my time with this piece. I finally signed my name tonight - and misspelled it. I'll fix it in the morning. Huckleberry is not impressed. The painting measures almost fourteen feet wide and is painted in three panels on canvas using acrylic and gold leaf. All the plants are from Wendy's garden in West Seattle where she keeps bees. Posted by Safi Crafts. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Jean Bradbury: January 2015

Friday, January 23, 2015. Clover Creek: A Bug's Eye View. I started last spring (see the cherry blossom? With my pal Barry who helped me devise a way to paint a twelve foot tall canvas in a seven foot tall studio. First I had to prime it in the only space large enough to fit an 8x12 canvas - the street in front of my house. Next Barry installed his ingenious invention of a two roller system with a breaking mechanism in the studio. I had to look at this little Inside Out Flower with a magnifying glass.

Jean Bradbury: May 2013
http://jeanbradbury.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 5, 2013. It's time to harvest the woad in my garden before it flowers and goes to seed. You can see here that the plant is a brassica related to broccoli. After steeping the leaves in hot water to make a kind of tea I added washing soda to increase the alkalinity and then beat the tea to oxygenate it. The liquid was dark green but the foam on top contained indigotin particles and was blue. I still want to try the urine thing though. Posted by Safi Crafts. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Friday, November 22, 2013. The Macrina Mural is Finished! I can't believe that my last post was three months ago! I have been busy teaching in Jordan at the Safi women's handcraft co-op. And working on my organization. To bring art and education to Syrian refugee children. But I have finally returned my brain to my own artwork and finished this large painting at my local Macrina Cafe and Bakery in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle. Posted by Safi Crafts. Jean Bradbury: Vegetable Garden with Tomatoes, Brussels Sprouts and Fennel
http://jeanbradbury.blogspot.com/2015/07/vegetable-garden-with-tomatoes-brussels.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. Vegetable Garden with Tomatoes, Brussels Sprouts and Fennel. I usually photograph my pieces outside on a cloudy day. Huckleberry watched. I showed this painting at the Ballard Farmer's Market on a cold winter day in 2013. It had a gold leaf background - and was part of a series of organic farms and food. It was a celebration of the weird and wonderfulness of the Brussels Sprout plant. I remember thinking that the white stems looked like rib bones. And then a fennel plant appeared.

Jean Bradbury: February 2013
http://jeanbradbury.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 28, 2013. Two Weeks. Two Shows. I have just wrapped up my project to paint the organic farms of the Snoqualmie Valley. Because this project was supported by three different grant agencies I am writing reports about how everything went, what I learned and how the public benefitted from my work. These are thought provoking questions. In fact I found this to be more than true! What did I learn? I learned that farmers are the hardest workers I can imagine. I learned that farm fields ar...
