Into Turkey and Kars | gswrestler

Into Turkey and Kars. July 21, 2015. All this hanging around has given me the opportunity to collect some impressions of my entry into Turkey. So, here’s a few pics. You no sooner enter Turkey and Mt Ararat is on the horizon (yes, that Mt Ararat). I was keen to head to the high country to both get away from the madding crowds and hopefully enjoy a more pleasant climate. So I headed north and eventually found myself in Kars. View from Kars citadel. Stuck in Turkey’s guts. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. On Ha...

North east Turkey, from Kars to Yusufeli/Barhal | gswrestler

North east Turkey, from Kars to Yusufeli/Barhal. July 29, 2015. While I’ve got a moment to spare I’d better catch up (backtrack) on some past days in the saddle (since I’ve got plenty of pics and time). A few weeks ago I left Kars in north-eastern Turkey and trundled north and west, to the Krackar mountains. I was keen on mountain roads and cool weather. I was greeted with bloody good roads, interesting scenery (with trees) and quite nice mild temps. With good old Ataturk overlooking it all.). You are co...

Karahan pansiyon & Barhal church of St John | gswrestler
https://gswrestler.wordpress.com/2015/08/10/karahan-pansiyon-barhal-church-of-st-john
Karahan pansiyon and Barhal church of St John. August 10, 2015. Up the end of the Barhal Valley is the very cosy and well catered Karahan Pansiyon. Literally adjacent to the guest house is a pretty little 10th century church, now used as a mosque. Small dedicated spring a couple of ks from Karahan pansiyon. Karahan pansiyon, tucked up and away in the trees. Barhal church, taken from pansiyon. Some of the hives they didn’t put out this year – bees everywhere! It has some beautifully preserved detail.

Hanging in Adıyaman, waiting… | gswrestler

Hanging in Adıyaman, waiting…. July 29, 2015. Ok, I’ve been in Adıyaman for a week now. Been waiting for the gearbox for more than two. Yep, it’s pretty testing…. The situation: I’m staying at the Yalcin Apart Daire and Pansiyon (hotel). It’s a couple of hundred meters from where my bike is, at Duzen Motorsiklet (motorbike service shop). First there was the suicide bombing at Suruc a couple of weeks ago. There’s no indication of any tension or conflict around here. Life, for the locals, seems t...BUT tha...

Stuck in Turkey’s guts. July 21, 2015. Well… Currently cooling my heels in southern Anatolia, Turkey – bike problem. I was on the way to Nemrut Dagi after a few days up north when it happened. First, second, and fourth gears appeared to work well enough to get me somewhere… But where…? I knew the gearbox now had a severely limited life. I needed a new one…. OK, I’m in the middle of Turkey – I ain’t gonna find a gearbox for a 35 year old bike around here any time soon… Plan? 3 Not too far away. Trigger pu...

Them hills behind Barhal | gswrestler
https://gswrestler.wordpress.com/2015/08/10/them-hills-behind-barhal
Them hills behind Barhal. August 10, 2015. The guys at Karahan suggested I take a backtrack up the hills behind Barhal to take in the air and mountainous views. Sounded like a good idea to me. You head up a reasonable track about 3ks further up the valley from Karahan (yeah, really should have taken those boxes off). Before long you’re in amongst the wild flowers. That’d be Barhal down below. And more wild flowers. After an hour or so you’re back at river level. And heading into the village. Dennis on Is...

Iran so far: some more pics | gswrestler
https://gswrestler.wordpress.com/2015/06/27/iran-so-far-some-pics
Iran so far: some more pics. June 27, 2015. Been here a few days. It’s been hot and dry down south, and a bit culinarily challenging (due to it being Ramadan), but totally interesting. It’s another world of its own: like China, Greece, and Rome these are people who once ruled the known world. What does that mean? Anyhow, let’s just post a couple more pics…. The entry, and bike parking space, in front of the hotel (Yazd). The view from the hotel’s front door. (That bike gets around, hey. ). The detail of ...

Monthly Archives: August 2015. August 29, 2015. Quick note to say hi y’all and tell you I just managed to upload a picture! That may/should mean I can do some more updating. Anyhow, I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled wordpress, time to try again. You wouldn’t believe it! After waiting for weeks I finally ‘found’ my gearbox when I went to t...Ibrahim, ...
