Freaky Las Vegas | On the Road Again
https://bikewriting.wordpress.com/2014/01/18/freaky-las-vegas
On the Road Again. The (mostly) two-wheeled adventures of a couple of Iowans. Laquo; Livin’ Las Vegas. Adventures off the bike. Better writers than I have written about Las Vegas’ contradictions, the yin and the yang. I took this picture because its twinkly light Nativity scene-ness seems incongruous, but, when you think about it, Jesus was born in the desert, wasn’t he? This is also the city where it rains on the half hour. Inside a mall. We found a mall made out of containers. And dinner may kill you.

On the Road Again. The (mostly) two-wheeled adventures of a couple of Iowans. Laquo; Harvest time at home. In early January Larry and I sought a warmer climate for a long weekend. Did we go to Mexico or Southern California? How about the redneck Riviera? No to all that. We went to Las Vegas! Las Vegas, where neon goes to retire, where people go to spend money on slots and craps, eat endless amounts of buffet, and enjoy high-ticket, star-studded shows. Another half-day trip to see the red rocks poking out...

On the Road Again. The (mostly) two-wheeled adventures of a couple of Iowans. Laquo; Adventures off the bike. Bikes, trains and (almost) no automobiles. There comes a time in bike advocates’ lives where they need to just climb on the saddle and take off. After a summer of only weekend rides, a July of family visits (love you all! Larry, who was two months into retirement, wanted a Big Trip. In about a week we organized a trip I’m calling: Bike, trains, and (almost) no automobiles. Oct 5: Left our car at ...

On the Road Again. The (mostly) two-wheeled adventures of a couple of Iowans. Laquo; Oregon is definitely not flat. Harvest time at home. What in the world? Another man is walking pushing a huge canvas world ball to increase awareness of diabetes. He hands out fruit and healthy snacks people give him. Learn about him. The World Guy was resting but Larry agreed to pose with the ball. Cyclists get to eat a lot, as you know. Here are a gaggle of bikes (most are the Illini kids). Feed You can leave a response.

Churlish Figure: January 2015
http://churlishfigure.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 31, 2015. If He Asked Me to I'd Murder, I Would Gladly Lose My Soul. John: I am so in love with you. Me: That's good, because now I don't have to chain you to my bed. John: Well, don't let THAT stop you. Thursday, January 29, 2015. I Made a Lot of Mistakes. In My Mind. In My Mind. Fueling up before the ride. The most recent amazing bike ride I've done was Mt Lemmon in Tucson, AZ. last February. Getting ready for the climb. Cyclists descending, while we were ascending. Almost at the top.
Churlish Figure: ...Can't YOu Come Out to Play in Your Empty Garden?
http://churlishfigure.blogspot.com/2015/05/cant-you-come-out-to-play-in-your-empty.html
Tuesday, May 05, 2015. Can't YOu Come Out to Play in Your Empty Garden? From inside the car at another rainy bike race. On Sunday, John was going to try to do his first mountain bike race at noon. I got up around 7'ish and was going to take my time trial bike out, but it started raining the minute I stepped out the door. Thwarted! I went back in and sat on the screened-in porch, drinking tea and reading my book. Not a bad alternative. Since the clouds headed East, the rest of the day was sunny and warm&#...
Churlish Figure: And I'm Just High on the World.
http://churlishfigure.blogspot.com/2015/05/and-im-just-high-on-world.html
Friday, May 08, 2015. And I'm Just High on the World. The last of my bleeding hearts. My cat is a weirdo. Reading and writing: I haven't written even one short story or even a fragment all year. Something to work on. I have written 77 blog posts this year. I have read 12 books so far this year - 2 nonfiction and 10 novels. I haven't read any short story collections yet. John and his cat bonding on our porch. The sun rising over my favorite barn to run past. And now for the work-out/playing stats:. There ...
Churlish Figure: Well It's All right, If You Live the Life You Please.
http://churlishfigure.blogspot.com/2015/05/well-its-all-right-if-you-live-life-you.html
Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Well It's All right, If You Live the Life You Please. Sunday was our last day in Chicago. Our plan was to get up early and run and then maybe swim in the pool and use the hot tub. We didn't wake up until after 8. That was the first time since I can't remember that I've had over 9 hours of straight sleep. So, we got a good, sweaty, stinky shot of us, complete with frizz halo above my head. It's actually kind of perfect. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Here is a Picture. Your D...

http://churlishfigure.blogspot.com/2015/05/caught-by-rain-and-blinded-by-lightning.html
Thursday, May 07, 2015. Caught by the Rain and Blinded by the Lightning. The cows guarding their food source. It's been raining here a lot this week. I feel like I've been slipping in workouts between rain drops.Or raging thunderstorms. Either one. Yesterday it was supposed to storm after 4. So, I took a half day off to go on a "fun" bike ride. I love to go on bike adventures by myself. The ride home was lovely with that strong tailwind. I turned West on 520 and saw it. That storm that was expect...Mom T...
Churlish Figure: I Could Sleep for a Thousand Years.
http://churlishfigure.blogspot.com/2015/05/i-could-sleep-for-thousand-years.html
Thursday, May 14, 2015. I Could Sleep for a Thousand Years. Heidi was "helping" John build the shelf for his mom's Mother's Day gift. On Sunday I woke-up feeling kind of crappy. I know I like to blame everything on hormones, but at my age, I'm usually right. I was dizzy, tired and not only did I not feel like running or riding, I was too tired to even read my book. so, I listened to my body and gave myself a "Get Out of Jail Free Card" day. Sounds like a perfect Mothers Day to me! Here is a Picture.
Churlish Figure: I'm Glad It's Your Birthday. Happy Birthday to You.
http://churlishfigure.blogspot.com/2015/05/im-glad-its-your-birthday-happy.html
Friday, May 15, 2015. I'm Glad It's Your Birthday. Happy Birthday to You. I love the drool spot Coadster left on my shoulder here. Coadster was born on a Friday on this day in 1992. She is turning 23 today and I feel so lucky to be her mom. We are headed to Chicago after work today to hang out and watch a Cubs game tomorrow. We're hoping for no rain. We have a hotel in the heart of everything, so it should be a fun weekend. Dry food is like eating potato chips all day for cats. There isn't much subst...

http://churlishfigure.blogspot.com/2015/05/no-more-lookin-for-brains-in-all-wrong.html
Monday, May 04, 2015. No More Lookin' for Brains in all the Wrong Places. Iowa in the Spring road warriors. I love the countryside we get to ride past. We made it to Riverside and ate lunch at Murphy's. Our friend, Seaghan met us there and John was, apparently, hungry for brains. I made the boys do a photo op with me at the Star Trek Museum on our way out of town. In my world, dorky photo ops are very, very important. No, it's.Oh, never mind! Churlish Figure: March 2015
http://churlishfigure.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2015. It's a Beautiful Day. On Sunday, our legs were fried from the run the day before. We had already committed to doing trail work on the mountain bike trails, but we figured it would take us a couple of hours and we contemplated maybe doing a little ride or swim after we were done. I love it that people put up weird masks and trolls along the trails. I don't always see them when I'm riding, because I'm trying hard to make sure I don't hit a root or a rock. John thought we should lea...
Churlish Figure: And It Makes Me Feel So Fine I Can't Control My Brain
http://churlishfigure.blogspot.com/2015/05/and-it-makes-me-feel-so-fine-i-cant.html
Tuesday, May 12, 2015. And It Makes Me Feel So Fine I Can't Control My Brain. John pointing out the log that some people are supposed to ride. People who are not us, apparently. Things have been a little crazy here lately. Our condo fell though for our Chicago weekend, so we've been scrambling to find something last minute. We have one more expensive option so far, and are waiting to find out about a less expensive option. I'll keep you all posted when I find out for sure. Im glad you are able to get out...

These are just two of the signs we saw while bikepacking in the Slocan Valley a few weeks ago. It was on the second day of bicycle camping that we spied a large black animal ahead of us. Peering through my binoculars, I determined that what we were seeing was a black cow with three calves behind her. Not kn...And w...

Bike Write Travel Eat Cook Love. Friday, May 15, 2015. Sometimes it is worth it. So, it has been months since I've updated this blog, mostly because I'm buried.
