Along the way I’ve discovered that I can often simplify tasks by writing simple scripts to do some of the work. This blog is a repository for some of these. I’m currently a post-doc researcher working in proteomics-ish things. Although I expose my work-in-progress bioinformatics skills on this site, my experience is predominately focused in protein production, purification, and biophysical characterization.

One of my favorite things to do is to try new ways to visually represent (in 2D) a complex three-dimensional protein structure. It’s an interesting challenge because it’s all too easy to end up with a protein backbone that looks like a pile of spaghetti from which limited useful information can be drawn. For some time my go-to package of choice was VMD.
