BIRDMAD: July 2013

http://birdsnap.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Friday, 19 July 2013. Travels in Nepal 2013 Part 4 - The trek to Gandruk! Chitwan was technically the end of the basic tour. Before we leave Chitwan, here is a hornets nest or two under the bridge:. All of us except Will had signed up for the trekking extension to Gandruk. Half way to Pokhara, Nepal's second city, we said goodbye to Will. A car was waiting at a bridge to take him back to Kathmandu for his flight home. We were sorry to see him go. Lynne with three local children. Plumbeous redstart - male.

BIRDMAD: September 2013

http://birdsnap.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Friday, 27 September 2013. Spotted crake at Oare keeps us waiting. Today I went with David Campbell to Oare Marshes. There were a few Curlew sandpipers, ruff, dunlins and bar-tailed godwits. There were quite a few golden plovers, lapwings, shovelers, redshank and teal, and a whole host of black-tailed godwits. However the main attraction was the spotted crake which had been there for a few days. Nothing for it but to wait for it to show again. A nice end to the afternoon. Links to this post. Spotted crak...

BIRDMAD: November 2012

http://birdsnap.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Monday, 19 November 2012. Ecuador – Part 4. Ecuador – Part 4. Heat at last, formula 1 canoes and the highest tree house in the world (so far)! The flight from Quito to Coca was short but the difference in terrain and temperature was staggering. The deep clefts in the earth in the mountains around the capital gave way to the flat, bland aerial scenery of the Amazon basin around the river Napo. We landed and the heat hit us as we ‘de-planed’. Well, we got off! Lesser kiskadee - a type of flycatcher. What y...

Monday, 5 August 2013. A WEEK ON THE IOM (not the Isle of Man) - July 2013. No, not the Isle of Man, the Isle of May! I hear you all cry. Well, it’s a small island 8 kilometres off the Scottish coast in the Firth of Forth. It’s a kilometre and a half long and a few hundred metres wide. It's here on Google Maps:. Https:/ maps.google.co.uk/maps? The lighthouse is quite attractive. Here is a picture of it from up the hill:. In fact, the accommodation was very nice. Proper (bunk) bedrooms, double glazed ...

BIRDMAD: January 2013

http://birdsnap.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 1 January 2013. Gambia again - a week in the sun. Yes, I know I went to the. Last year but this year Lynne came with me. It was just a week and we agreed that I would go birdwatching in the morning and Lynne would read her Kindle on the beach and get a tan. It worked out something like that but with a few unexpected twists. Kombo Beach hotel. We had a ground floor room. Not exactly 'a la mode' but it kept the sun off! In fact, later, I realised it was a great advantage. Pied kingfisher, hovering.

Health

Tuesday, April 19, 2016. Starting Strength style workout, take two. 1) A few of the exercises were relatively exotic/non-standard for a beginner-oriented workout. These were replaced with their more conventional counterparts. For example, here you will see bent-over rows instead of Pendlay rows. If a beginner at the gym asks somebody for help with bent-over rows they can probably get it; asking about Pendlay rows is apt to get them a blank stare. So week 1 might look like:. Monday - Workout A. See Here :...
