A Teenager's Journey into Woodworking and Life-here lies naivety and beginnings! Tuesday, August 4, 2015. The saws are here! A while ago, Sebastian offered to send me a saw on Reddit, in a comment chain on how to get blades out of some kannas the OP had inherited. He ended up sending me multiple! First, the beautiful pruning saw Murakami sent me as a gift:. Murakami says it was forged 40 years ago by Nakaya Masaemon, and has never been used! This will be a cherished gift! And here's the rip saw! Using th...

It turns out, the first two replacement soles were the only VISIBLE sole repairs. There were more sole repairs when I removed the split sole. For this one, I just cut off the protruding nails and filed them smooth. On one side, there is red paint, dappled with white specks and scratched in places. Some nails are visible. Friday, July 24, 2015. Got the forge working!

A Good Shovel | Granite Mountain Woodcraft

Study Japanese Carpentry in NoCO. July 24, 2015. Just a short one for today. I was thinking this blog is about hand tools right? How about one that gets used before all of a structure can be built? I don’t want to get too eloquent in writing about it, it’s just a shovel. But it gives that simple kind of satisfaction to see something well made that has lasted, and been thought well enough of to be taken care of. Thanks Dad. Perennial food and fuel stock. Ever heard of Seaberry (. I need a 75mm kanna!

I have about eight bushes, and two little ones that haven't produced any yet-They were scrawny cheap lil' fellas. Hopefully with the nice soil I gave them they'll produce next year. It also has great plans on making a pole lathe and a treadle lathe! Thinking of making a pole lathe if I ever get the space. Will need some way to make handles. Sunday, June 28, 2015.

A Teenager's Journey into Woodworking and Life-here lies naivety and beginnings! Friday, August 14, 2015. So, yesterday ended up being another hiking trip! This time, it was to Stony Brook. A great park, a classic in my family. This was the only picture I have right now, the rest are on a waterproof camera with really low quality pictures. I had to use the waterproof camera, since most of the hike requires trekking through the creek. A great time! So, I finally got to Klein Steel Direct! The shelves and ...

A Teenager's Journey into Woodworking and Life-here lies naivety and beginnings! Sunday, August 2, 2015. A bit of a catchup. Finished up this sign, with hand-drawn letters cut out on the scrollsaw and a woodburned angel. I have no idea why it is flipped over, but it says Jesus. Woods: Oak, Walnut. So, I got my first kanna today as a birthday gift! Here's the first shaving, right out of the box. Ooook, now I can sort of understand you guys. Smoothest finish I've ever seen. Ya, that's just a pretty picture.

A Teenager's Journey into Woodworking and Life-here lies naivety and beginnings! Monday, August 10, 2015. So, that willow leaf saw? After some more practice with it, this is it's cut surface. Probably my favorite saw right now. With my cousin Brendan, I made this little knife out of an old file. I need to work on my tangs, I think I will try flipping the sledgehammer over to use it's cross pein side. On the drive back from a wedding, I got these pictures, I think they came out nice. On the stones: seriou...
