Black Sheep Woodworker

Day two of hand plane making with Jeff Miller. September 10, 2012. I started day two with the plane needing shaping and squaring up, I thought. After laying the basic shape out on the plane I went over to the bandsaw and roughed it out. Jeff suggested we rout a small section out and make a patch for that area to tighten up the mouth. Day one of hand plane making with Jeff Miller. September 9, 2012. Jeff’s hand plane is the one in front and mine is the one in back. Hand Tools with Jeff Miller. May 22, 2012.

Cutting Boards | Black Sheep Woodworker

https://blacksheepwoodworker.wordpress.com/2011/06/10/cutting-boards

My Jounery Back Into Woodworking. The Awaited Table saw →. June 10, 2011. This morning I got down into the shop early. I needed to get a good amount of work done on the projects I’m working on, some cutting boards. A couple regular cutting boards and a couple end grain style cutting boards. Everything was going good, until the final glue up. Both cutting boards bowed to the point I had to resurface them with a router to flatten them out. Then I thought what about the hardware store in the ghetto? Dale J&...

My Jounery Back Into Woodworking | Black Sheep Woodworker

https://blacksheepwoodworker.wordpress.com/2011/04/30/about

Cutting Boards →. My Jounery Back Into Woodworking. April 30, 2011. At this time I started a new job 16 years ago, which is my current employer. This mold shop was busy, we we’re able to work an unlimited amount of hours a week we wanted. I was putting in 60 plus hours a week, by the weekend I was beat, to tired to do any woodworking, so my interest in the hobby started to die. Thank you Marc and Matt for getting me interested in woodworking once again. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Kellogg Fur...

Last Minute Elf | Tom's Workbench

http://tomsworkbench.com/last-minute-elf

Lights, Camera, Action! Every woodworker has this fantasy. You may think you don’t, but believe me, you do. It’s early on that special morning during the holiday season. Cup of coffee in hand, gathered with your pajama-clad loved ones, you wear the sly smile of someone who knows something that the other people in the room don’t. There’s a special someone there, looking for the gift marked for them, but they looked perplexed. I don’t see a gift here for me. Did you forget? But, hey, that’s cool. In fa...

The Shop Monkey | Tom's Workbench

http://tomsworkbench.com/the-shop-monkey

Lights, Camera, Action! Just who is the Trained Shop Monkey? My furry friend Iggy was a gift from my sons for Father’s Day back in 2006. My oldest son came out to the shop to watch his dad work. After a few minutes, I set him up on a section of the shop floor with some scraps, a few quick-grip clamps and a bottle of Elmer’s white glue. When I got back to Florida, I joked with my sons that I had taken the title of trained shop monkey from my oldest. They kids were laughing, and a few days later, we we...

My shop weasels | Tom's Workbench

http://tomsworkbench.com/2012/02/29/my-shop-weasels

Lights, Camera, Action! February 29, 2012. For a guy known as the Shop Monkey, you’d think that I would have had enough of animals in my shop. But, I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you about my shop weasels. Some people have gremlins. Others have gnomes. Everybody has that mischievous spirit that runs off with that important thingamabob that you need for your next step in the project, but darned if you can find it. Why can’t I find the right chisel? It was just on my bench right here…. There are other tech...

Lights, Camera, Action! October 11, 2015. Roy Underhill’s Roubo Bookstand. Andre Roubo is a well-known 18th century French woodworker whose work has inspired thousands of workbenches. However, his masterwork L’art du Menuisier, he had plans for more than just his workbench. In his own unique way, Roy shows how this is done with simple hand tools. It’s a must-see. Lights, Camera, Action! All posts by Tom. I'm the guy who writes the blog. First things first … and this is the last. December 10, 2015. Nine years ago, I was but a wee lad, bright-eyed and bushy tailed full of vim and vigor. Marc Spagnuolo, my woodworking svengali, asked if I would be interested in writing a few guest posts for him. Heck, I even got the attention of sponsors. Companies such as MicroJig, Infinity Cutting Tools, Tormek, Bora Tools, Bell Forest Products. Laguna. Eagle America. Then, I real...

Lights, Camera, Action! Category Archives: Monkey Tails. Quit monkeying around…. October 1, 2015. Hey, everyone, Iggy here, and you’ll never guess what happened – again. The tailless one – Tom – got picked up by the people at Wood Magazine. For their November edition. I mean, come on, by now you would have figured that they would have gotten wise to him and his hijinks. Evolving pieces | Tom's Workbench

http://tomsworkbench.com/2015/07/29/evolving-pieces

Lights, Camera, Action! July 29, 2015. Isn’t it amazing how furniture needs and styles have changed over the decades? Why did these two pieces stand out so much? It’s because in most houses, they are 100% unnecessary. That hasn’t always been the case. Before today’s home with walk in closets that – in some cases – are larger than most bedrooms, people just didn’t have that many clothes. Add to the fact that the average home built today has an extra 1,000 square feet than the average home built in 1973.
