Site Revamp Underway | Bleeding Play
https://bleedingplay.wordpress.com/2008/02/05/site-revamp-underway
Free games that deliver. I got the approval of the Push 1 contributors to post their articles online, so I’ve begun putting them up over on the new Push 1 page. So far, the only article up is my introduction, but I’m using it to fine-tune the CSS before going down the list and posting the other articles. Eventually PDF versions of the articles will be up too. Then it’s on to Push 2. I’m also trying to redo the overall look of the website to prepare it to host the Plays-Well.com. From your own site.

Free games that deliver. Many attempts to examine this medium begin by asking what is roleplaying? This journal exists to be a forum for new thinking about roleplaying, a place to allow a more thorough and less ephemeral exploration than what occurs on Internet bulletin boards or in the blogosphere. I also hope that this journal will constantly strive to reveal unexplored aspects of roleplaying, and continue to expand the envelope of possibilities. That why it’s called Push. A literary journal originally...
Push 1 Up, Needs Formatting | Bleeding Play

Free games that deliver. Push 1 Up, Needs Formatting. Getting closer. All the text from Push 1 is up and I’ve started formatting the introduction and Emily’s article, which are looking pretty sweet actually. Hopefully, by the weekend, I’ll have all the articles formatted properly, with tables and graphics included. Good luck understanding Mridangam. Without the gestures to go with it. Free games that deliver. One of Sarah’s points was that it’s sometimes hard for people to describe what kind of game they’re hoping for. I was wondering if you think that’s true. Because i’m not sure i see it. I think it is. There isn’t easy terminology, and there are more options than in the tabletop world, I feel — or at least more common options. It’s common to have a romance-focused RPG online, for instance, whereas that’s not so common tabletop. Well, you can. In a journal game. Which is one way I s...

I have carried out original research that has furthered an historical debate. But I don't publish. But I do publish. On the other hand I am a writer and researcher.
Gary Smailes : Were shield walls the best option?
http://garysmailes.typepad.com/gary_smailes/2008/04/were-shield-wal.html
Laquo; Digital Penguins and history e-books. Field of Glory ». April 21, 2008. Were shield walls the best option? I am currently re-reading The Conquest of Gaul by Caesar. Well, I am actually listening to it on audio but lets not get pedantic. I came across this section where Caesar is talking about driving Ariovistus. THE CONQUEST OF GAUL, II, 2. This account is from a battle in 57 B.C. and clearly describes a shield wall formation and this got me thinking. Wiki article offers a bit more of an insight.

Stories on the Inside: Inhabiting character
http://storiesontheinside.blogspot.com/2009/12/inhabiting-character.html
Stories on the Inside. An occasional blog about gaming. By which I mean pen and paper RPG gaming, mostly. Thursday, December 3, 2009. Once upon a time, I was playing in a game at U*CON. Since then, I've been playing with various techniques to try to get my head to go into the character's head, to really integrate, for the duration of the game, myself with whoever it is I'm playing. I think I do pretty well, but really, it's not a performance - it's just for me. This is the way I like to play. From there,...

Stories on the Inside: The sandbox
http://storiesontheinside.blogspot.com/2009/11/sandbox.html
Stories on the Inside. An occasional blog about gaming. By which I mean pen and paper RPG gaming, mostly. Monday, November 30, 2009. I apparently don't spend enough time reading about gaming theory. I have run across a new (to me) term - that is, "sandbox". I honestly can't say I like games like this, and I'm wondering why. I've certainly played in them before, although it's really been years since I even encountered one of these. Am I interpreting this term correctly? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Stories on the Inside: December 2009
http://storiesontheinside.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Stories on the Inside. An occasional blog about gaming. By which I mean pen and paper RPG gaming, mostly. Tuesday, December 8, 2009. What I'm about to say is completely unscientific, and if there has ever been any published or private research on this topic, I'd love to get it. I was thinking this morning about demographics, specifically the demographics of people in our hobby, by which I mean pen and paper RPGs. But, it's rare. At least that's my impression. There have been some trends that I applaud...

Stories on the Inside: Player responsibilities

Stories on the Inside. An occasional blog about gaming. By which I mean pen and paper RPG gaming, mostly. Monday, November 30, 2009. Following up on my last post about GM roles, here are some thoughts on player responsibilities. It may seem strange to put this much effort into what are, at the core of it, just games we play. But if it's to the greater good, then it's worth it. We all want specific things out of our gaming experiences. Some things to consider:. 1) How much time do you have? 8) Finally, do...

Stories on the Inside: Randomness in RPGs
http://storiesontheinside.blogspot.com/2009/12/randomness-in-rpgs.html
Stories on the Inside. An occasional blog about gaming. By which I mean pen and paper RPG gaming, mostly. Saturday, December 5, 2009. One thing that's come up from time to time, when discussing our hobby with fellow aficionados, is the use of dice, or other random generators, in determining what happens. I get the simulationist approach to stats, but dislike the implications of it. It makes character creation a different sort of proposition - it puts the random generation of some basics about your ch...
Gary Smailes : Going Digital
http://garysmailes.typepad.com/gary_smailes/2008/04/going-digital.html
Laquo; Northern Eye Books. Why visit a publisher's website? April 09, 2008. My wife recently made available a novella she had written to support her first novel as a free download. The idea was to drum up support for In Search of Adam. And raise some money for charity - which it did. The idea of giving away free e-book versions of in-print books is not a new thing and a number of big publishers have recently been experimenting. The question is does a free e-book impact on the sales of the real book?
