Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Blue ribbons of sky. It's a balmy 53 degrees with the sun streaming through the sky, beautiful, with a moon cloud along the eastern horizon spectacular. Hundreds of birds are still migrating north, sometimes they stop for a break as did the Snow geese, but mostly they are just flying by. So much to be thankful for, the deer still grazing through town, and under the boardwalk, warblers and other summer residents adding their songs to the morning glee, I am so thankful for the day.

There was a pair of Harlequin Ducks, the first for the season swimming in the river. Their unique coloration caught my eye, and what a treat it was to spy them before they took flight. The day began with the chitterling of a bald eagle at predawn, you know that time, when you are not quite awake, but the sun is climbing in a rosy hue along the white peaks of the inlet. It had been a clear night and evidence of frost was found on the windshield of my truck parked along the side the shop. Wednesday, May 4, 2011. It has been a hectic ten days, with school whirling to a close, students packing for summer travels and finals completed at last. The gifts continue to unfold daily in the skies above, waters below and on the ground. There have been thousands of migrating birds winging north, it is phenomenal. Sunday, May 8, 2011. May 7, and * 8, 2011. The current temp is 50 degrees, that is the warmest it has been since last fall, and it feels good. Early in the morning there was a mist over the water and it gave the appearance of a silver sheen, then where the mist was lifting you could see on the surface reflections of the snow capped peaks of the inlet, quite breathtaking.
