Designing directly in the Chrome browser
http://www.blog.jamesflorentino.com/2012/09/23/chrome-developer-tool-tricks.html
Designing directly in the Chrome browser. Published on September 23, 2012. I’ve made a video about a trick I discovered a few weeks ago. Basically, it’ll let you edit CSS (also JavaScript) files on the fly within the browser and save your progress from there. It’s pretty neat for immediately doing changes to the CSS files that you’re working on without copying and pasting everything manually to your editor. Update November 16, 2012. A friend of mine sent me this Chrome Extension.
Hello, Universe.

Published on July 11, 2012. I’ve finally decided to create a blog so I could document my adventures in web design and development, as well as other things that are going on in my gray matter. If you like, you can follow my updates on twitter.
My 2013 report
http://www.blog.jamesflorentino.com/2014/01/11/my-2013-report.html
Published on January 11, 2014. My blog hasn’t been getting its updates for a while; Not because I’m busy, but because I didn’t have new topics to cover that hasn’t been discussed yet in other front-end or UI design related blogs. But 2013 has been a blast for me, and I will tell my story. Building Zobe with Backbone.js. Earlier that quarter, I did a project called Zobe. My CoffeeScript skills leveled up on this one. The syntactic sugar is fun to write and easy to comprehend on the eyes. I gave Ember....
Code for converting favicons
http://www.blog.jamesflorentino.com/2014/02/21/code-for-converting-favicons.html
Code for converting favicons. Published on February 21, 2014. Often times whenever I start a project, I always end up looking for an old code or script for favicons. To save myself time, I wrote a Gist. I’m a UI designer who loves working in the command line. It’s just so damn fast and automated especially if you have tmux set up. So I guess this article is meant for people who have similar dev workflow. Creating the base icon and generating different sizes. No more manual resizing in Photoshop! If you&#...
SVG Spriting in CSS
http://www.blog.jamesflorentino.com/2012/07/21/svg-spriting-in-css.html
SVG Spriting in CSS. Published on July 21, 2012. As a follow up for my previous article about my workflow in implementing icon fonts in websites. Today I’ll be discussing about using SVG as background images in CSS. If you’re familiar with atlassing. Or CSS spriting), the process can be done the same way with SVGs. Unlike the icon fonts technique, you’re not bound to one color. You can use gradients, clipping masks, and transparencies while still keeping your mark-up and CSS clean (no. Now the texture is...

Doctor McCurdy – Update. Posted on October 16, 2013 by jay in Uncategorized. It has been an extremely busy year. Summer graduation didn’t happen, not because I was too busy to finish up. Rather, I had one final long-term study that hadn’t wrapped up until June. There was a late June deadline for paper work that I couldn’t meet, so I was set on December rather than August [.]. Posted on August 10, 2013 by jay in Uncategorized. Ironman Nutrition – For the Long Haul. In short, I wasn’t prepared for St...
James Edward Johnson | my thoughts from right to left
My thoughts from right to left. AIPAC lobbies for U.S. interests. Leave a comment ». My letter in the July 6 Ames Tribune:. AIPAC lobbies for U.S. interests. I find it ironic when someone makes it sound as if AIPAC were the lobby for a foreign government (‘Obama demands more of Israel’ June 28). I am a proud and patriotic American and a member of AIPAC. We lobby our American government as Americans who promote American interests in the world. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 6:13 am. Seventy years ago today, fo...

Welcome to the OneRNG. The importance of entropy often goes ignored, especially as you look at the cost of devices that provide entropy. A nice alternative to these is the OneRNG, previously on KickStarter and hopefully soon to be available for general purchase. I backed the KickStarter campaign and my OneRNG and programmer arrived last week. Verification and installation was very … [Read more…]. LCA 2015 is almost here! The Just Checks Today Widget. Inspired by Shawn Blanc’s The Just Checks. Episode of The Weekly Briefly podcast. Are those times throughout the day when we ‘just check’ our phones: skim over our Twitter feeds, browse RSS, check our emails, etc. In Shawn’s words:. It’s a bad habit. And uses their URL schemes to launch the apps. I’ve also hidden my Tweetbot and Unread app icons away in a folder on the last home screen on my phone. This adds enough extra friction that I’m more likely to use the widget to...
