Life Through the eyes of Nathan Coad. Laquo; Philippines part 2. Audio distribution via raspberry pi mesh. ESXi 5.1 and VDP failing with 2008 R2 VMs. Having recently upgraded my home lab to ESXi 5.1, I’ve noticed that a number of VMs have stopped backing up via VDP. The symptoms were that the snapshot was created, the VDP job would reach 10%, then the snapshot would get removed and the job would fail. Some searching for alternatives revealed this blog post. Create C: windows pre-freeze-script.bat. So now...

Life Through the eyes of Nathan Coad. Laquo; ESXi 5.1 and VDP failing with 2008 R2 VMs. Get historical events for a specific VM using powercli. Audio distribution via raspberry pi mesh. So I have this crazy idea for distributing audio among a number of different buildings, all pretty close to each other. They all need to receive the same audio, although being in perfect sync is not necessary. Neither is super high-quality. Which already has a prebuilt image. At this stage it’s not clear whether Ope...

Life Through the eyes of Nathan Coad. Archive for the ‘Technical’ Category. Laquo; Previous Entries. Windows vCenter 5.5 to VCSA 6 upgrade. Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016. Lately at $employer we have been planning an upgrade of VMware vCenter from version 5.5 installed on a Windows server, to version 6.0u1 installed as the vCenter Appliance (VCSA). Fortunately there are plenty of smart people that have been in the same situation as us, who have developed an unofficial migration tool. The first issue experie...

Life Through the eyes of Nathan Coad. Laquo; Audio distribution via raspberry pi mesh. Sharing rpool with l2arc. Get historical events for a specific VM using powercli. So today I needed to look at some historical events for a VM from roughly 30 days ago. Unfortunately this VM generates a bit of noise in the vCenter event log, with CPU alarms going orange and returning to green, so the last 1000 events didn’t stretch back far enough. You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0.

Is a great IRC client, one which I use all the time. It's console based, but that doesn't mean it looks plain. In fact, the only disadvantage is the lack of mouse support, but even that isn't so bad. One of the big things about Irssi is it's perl scripting interface. Now being a perl scripter at heart, I've written a few scripts of my own. The most comprehensive and useful of these is Aspeller.

Well, like the title suggests, here is some cool stuff. First up, we have LaTeX. Which is an awesome typesetting program. Theres even a windows version of it called MiKTeX. Then there is, well, something else, when I've thought of it that is. But LaTeX is really cool - I've been doing some of my uni assignments with it lately.

Current version: 0.3.1. Aspeller is the name I've given to my latest script. It's basically an interface between aspell. The OSS *nix spelling program) and Irssi, highlighting misspelled words as you type. It also offers a command that responds with a number of suggestions for a misspelled word. It's still in development, but it seems to run fairly well on my 300Mhz box H H H beast. All the associated documentation can be found at the beginning of the script, which can be downloaded here.

There is nothing much here right now. I'm in the process of building this site again using CSS for formatting. There is heaps of info at the Zen Garden. That I've found quite useful in doing this. The text below is so massively outdated it isn't funny. I've just never gotten around to updating it. If you want to know more about me, read my blog, and check out my photos. I was lucky enough to get a position at CSC in their graduate program as a Server Engineer. Yay!

The Blog of Mike. Thursday, June 29, 2006. Storing system time in UTC in Windows XP. A friend of mine. Came across an article. Describing how to store the system time as UTC in Windows XP. The magic key is at:. HKLM SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control TimeZoneInformation RealTimeIsUniversal. It's a DWORD that needs to be set to 1 (I had to create it). Of course, you need to reboot afterwards. There have been reports of side-effects, but so far it seems OK for me. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Asking questions, sometimes rhetorical

Asking questions, sometimes rhetorical. My experience with water fasting (part 2). January 8, 2016. Today I’ll make up for the two days I’ve missed this year by writing for 48 minutes instead of 16.]. Hellip;continued from yesterday. Everything I experienced during my fast was pretty much just as Dr. Fuhrman said it would be in his book–so read the book. I kept a diary during my fast, which some day I will edit and share with you; but not today. Yes, for years to come. When you eat a fat molecule and...

Innate Poems

Words i organize the way a paintbrush scratches the page. August 3, 2015 at 8:52am. The feast of August. In a cold spring. Resting home of spirits. Some ancient, some wise. We dipped our toes. For refreshment and relief. Took place upon checkered floor. Mopping the opponent’s pieces. Right down to their king. No pawn to save. Pride in the offspring. She raised her salute high. And up high, in other domains. Realms, cosmi others observed. Marked in sand on the compass. Before the harvest season begins.

My thoughts on the Lighting Industry’s Market Strategy. Posted July 20, 2011 by nathanframpton. Lighting trends evolve slower than other fashion categories, namely clothing and personal accessories. Distributors are not able to properly absorb the amount and frequency of new product introductions. The European model of fewer, yet more important markets, is very effective. The largest lighting show in the world is Euroluce. Held in the fashion capitol of the word, Milan, Italy. Many of the products you pu...

Faith & Family. Engagement & Wedding. Fayette County Newborn…Snow Storm Baby. January 28th 2014 was a day full of adventure and drama. Winter storm Leon brought Atlanta to a halt with children spending the night on school buses stranded on the highway, cars out of gas and abandoned on the highway as drivers looked for shelter, and 45 min commutes transformed into eight plus hour trips home (if they made it). This was also the day the newest addition to our family made her grand appearance. Fall is one of...
