Building the (scratch) Micro Fat Boy (part 1) | Rich's Rockets

Born-Late Rocketeer Tells All. Building the (scratch) Micro Fat Boy (part 1). August 15, 2015. Let’s press on to the next one! In late 2013/early 2014 I bought two Mega Mosquito kits during Estes sales. I built one Mega Mosquito and one Mosquito, because they give you the parts for both in one kit. The other Mega Mo I intend to kitbash into a Fat Boy clone. And the other Mosquito… well, symmetry suggests making it a Fat Boy too, right? A 1/5x downscale Micro Fat Boy. Then launch lug, fillets, Kevlar to m...

Rocketry goals review for Jul 2015 | Rich's Rockets
https://richsrockets.wordpress.com/2015/08/06/rocketry-goals-review-for-jul-2015
Born-Late Rocketeer Tells All. Rocketry goals review for Jul 2015. August 6, 2015. This has been a month. Fly an I motor. Not yet, but I’ve bought one, and the hardware. Put an entry (however pathetic) into at least four club launch contests and four club launch themes. Completed the Rose-a-Roc for the August contest. Worked on the D-Region Tomahawk for the September theme/contest. Built a saucer which is mildly odd for the August theme, not that I don’t already have odd-rocs to fly. Adhere to a budget.

Enter Sandman | Rich's Rockets

Born-Late Rocketeer Tells All. August 7, 2015. Reports of the death of Excelsior Rocketry turn out to have been. Unfortunately during all this he lost his web site; go to excelsiorrocketry.com and all you find is a dead site. Gordon apparently felt no real attachment to the name Excelsior, though it came with the company when he bought it so rather than pay an exorbitant price to regain the domain name he just bought a new one: http:/ www.sandmandecals.com/. So things are a bit rocky but still going!

Born-Late Rocketeer Tells All. Building the Quest MLAS (part 4). August 6, 2015. It’s a little too humid for my liking for paint this week, so I’m devoting rocket time to assembly. Having at last done the paint foam test on the MLAS nose cone, I no longer need access to the bottom of the nose cone, so I finally could proceed with gluing on the shoulder. Here’s a test fit of the stack, with the nose weight in place. Those were glued into place. August 6, 2015. Building the Quest MLAS (part 3). Rich’...

Repairing the Sky Condor | Rich's Rockets
https://richsrockets.wordpress.com/2015/07/20/repairing-the-sky-condor
Born-Late Rocketeer Tells All. Repairing the Sky Condor. July 20, 2015. When I went to fly the Condor yesterday I realized I’d never gotten around to repairing a problem. The Condor is designed without a thrust ring, so only the tongue on the motor hook stops the motor from moving forward. On the last flight, the hook was shoved forward into the body tube. That should allow future flights without needing a tape thrust ring, and without shoving the hook forward again. July 20, 2015. Glide, glided, glade.
