Nothing’s going according to plan. Which was SO helpful, btw), we found a couple “classic” motels in the area, so we drove around looking for vacancy signs. we came upon El Trovatore. Built in 1937 as a service station originally, it was recently refurbished with “themed” celebrity rooms, and after weighing our options between the two rooms available (Marilyn or Michael Jackson, that is), we went with Michael because of the “Bad” album poster hanging over the bed COME ON. Oh hi, ojai. The days of going to summer camp may be over for us 30-somethings, but you know what’s better than camp (ok, maybe a lot of things)? Girls weekends. especially when they involve wine, shopping and hipster hotels. let’s go to ojai, k? Plus there’s a store called summer camp (stalk them on insta. Seriously), where you can buy trinkets like pretty little pyramids that “rid bad vibes,” which are way better than those braided bracelets you used to take home from camp. Sleep: at the Ojai Rancho Inn.

See mo’s bungalow, pt. 1. Six months ago if you would have told me i’d be writing from my new home right now, i would have laughed (and probably rolled my eyes, if you were my husband, cause that’s how those conversations went for approximately two years while he did his best to talk me into selling our town home). i am. To share with you soon. but in the meantime, welcome to our home. stay a while, won’t you? Chairs: West Elm here. Candlesticks: vintage via Rejuvenation. Furniture is expensive, you guys!

Three on a match. Friday, July 11, 2008. A quick entry, photos will be forthcoming:. We kicked some tires wasted some time (theirs and ours) and got to the airport just as Dennis deplaned. We scooped up his bag ( thank God he only had one! We left Amarillo heading due west to our final destination of the day, Tucumcari, New Mexico.

The Art of the Road Trip. People Along the Way: Kevin & Nancy Mueller in Tucumcari, NM. Kevin and Nancy Mueller own the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari. The Blue Swallow is a Route 66 icon. Kevin and Nancy are still relatively new owners of the place and have done a great job of restoring it to its original style. The decision to purchase the motel and relocate from Michigan to New Mexico wasn’t an easy one, and it came after Kevin was laid off from his corporate job with Valvoline. We are Jay and Erin D...
