Bolt On Bicycles: Water, water, every where...

http://boltonbicycles.blogspot.com/2013/02/water-water-every-where.html

Bolt’s Bicycle Facts. Water, water, every where. Decided to take a chance on the scenic route to work for the first time since the flooding in November. It's still looking more like the Thames Estuary than the Thames Valley Park, I'm just glad that the ground was frozen. Meadowland at Thames Valley Park - 19 Feb. Bolt On Bicycles: Faff Free Cycling

http://boltonbicycles.blogspot.com/p/faff-free-cycling.html

Bolt’s Bicycle Facts. To faff, meaning to waste time dithering or fumbling about is, I think, quite a British expression closely associated with the U.S term of “dicking around”. Throughout this blog I will look at ways that faff can be eliminated and how journeys on the bike can present the same level of convenience we associate with “jumping into the car” or “just nipping out” to the local shop. Bolt On Bicycles: A Challenge Too Far

http://boltonbicycles.blogspot.com/2013/02/a-challenge-too-far.html

Bolt’s Bicycle Facts. A Challenge Too Far. The prospect of entering this year's London-Edinburgh-London. 1400km epic was an enticing one. It only happens every 4 years and being coincident with my 50th year it almost seemed to be a message from the gods that I should enter. However the inescapable fact of this ride is that it constitutes 4 consecutive days of riding 300km followed by a 200km ride on the 5th day. In July last year I completed my longest ever journey. Bolt On Bicycles: The Virtual Peleton

http://boltonbicycles.blogspot.com/p/the-virtual-peleton.html

Bolt’s Bicycle Facts. I wrote this piece based on an earlier blog post as an entry for the velobici writing competition. It didn't make the shortlist but I offer my congratulations to fellow Berkshire Bike Blogger. Mike Butcher for his winning entry in "The Race" category. You don’t have to be a sports fan to take inspiration from these legends and now we even have one to call our own. So, the next time you’re having a hard time in the saddle why not drop back for a while in your virtual ...Environment: ...

WillCycle: What we need is art!

http://willcycle.blogspot.com/2011/06/what-we-need-is-art.html

I think, therefore I cycle. Plym Valley and Drakes Trail. Sunday, 5 June 2011. What we need is art! Earlier today I cycled up the Plym Valley Trail, to Yelverton and back. Officially, the Plym Valley Trail ends at Clearbrook, and Drake's Trail starts from there. Along the way, I stopped at Shaugh Halt to eat a chocolate bar and have a drink. Shaugh halt retains the old platform, and is a rather good spot to stop during a downpour, as you can shelter on the old platform, under the bridge. The couch should...

WillCycle: Devon and Cornwall Police - Episode 2

http://willcycle.blogspot.com/2015/05/devon-and-cornwall-police-episode-2.html

I think, therefore I cycle. Plym Valley and Drakes Trail. Tuesday, 12 May 2015. Devon and Cornwall Police - Episode 2. Back in March 2015 I posted an open letter to the Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Police. Asking some rather pointed questions about the lack of support cyclists receive from the force. Before reading the rest of this post, I really suggest you read that post first, as this is a follow-up. In that post I asked 6 specific questions:. 7) What will YOU do about this? I have tried to r...

WillCycle: Gem Bridge is open!

http://willcycle.blogspot.com/2012/05/gem-bridge-is-open.html

I think, therefore I cycle. Plym Valley and Drakes Trail. Monday, 7 May 2012. Gem Bridge is open! I was told, via my Devon Coast to Coast cycling holidays. Site that Gem Bridge was open, as in fully. Open This was on Saturday, and I immediately made plans to cycle out there, as Gem Bridge is only about 20 miles from my home. Looking South, towards Horabridge. Looking North, towards Tavistock. Looking South. The zig-zag path mimics the original, very rough and nasty path. Simon soldiered on, riding his mo...

WillCycle: Gem bridge - concrete supports taking shape, but Grenofen tunnel lags behind

http://willcycle.blogspot.com/2011/07/gem-bridge-concrete-supports-taking.html

I think, therefore I cycle. Plym Valley and Drakes Trail. Saturday, 2 July 2011. Gem bridge - concrete supports taking shape, but Grenofen tunnel lags behind. Earlier today I had a chance to have a look at what progress has been made at Gem bridge, over the Walkham valley and on the same spot as Brunel's original Grenofen viaduct. Following the old railway route will cut out many uphills and would vastly improve Drake's Trail. Sadly, I fear it will be quite some time before this part of the route opens, ...

WillCycle: Tour of Devon and some chance encounters

http://willcycle.blogspot.com/2014/09/tour-of-devon-and-some-chance-encounters.html

I think, therefore I cycle. Plym Valley and Drakes Trail. Monday, 22 September 2014. Tour of Devon and some chance encounters. As we usually do, my mate Simon and I planned on cycling out to go and watch the Tour of Britain's Devon stage, which this year was on the 11th of September 2014. Again it was an unplanned meeting, the three of us rode together into Plymouth, where Denis and Felix split off to go to work, while I went to have a coffee. Simon was quite unwell, and didn't feel capable of cycling, s...

WillCycle: Exmouth Exodus 2014

http://willcycle.blogspot.com/2014/08/exmouth-exodus-2014.html

I think, therefore I cycle. Plym Valley and Drakes Trail. Tuesday, 19 August 2014. I'll admit it freely: I do like cycling in the dark and I do like through-the-night bike rides, so it's no wonder I signed up to ride the Exmouth Exodus. For those that don't know, the Exodus is a 108-mile ride that starts in Bath (it used to start in Bristol) and ends in Exmouth. It is loosely modelled on the Dunwich Dynamo, the through-the-night ride that started it all. There were a few other cyclists catching the same ...

WillCycle: New Bike!

http://willcycle.blogspot.com/2013/01/new-bike.html

I think, therefore I cycle. Plym Valley and Drakes Trail. Saturday, 26 January 2013. After quite some time I have finally taken receipt of my new bike. It's a B'Twin Triban 3, which you may or may not know, is an entry-level road bike. I decided to get a new bike through Cyclescheme as there were clear savings to be made. Fortunately my employers are very cycle-friendly (our bike park is indoors! And they have already signed up to Cyclescheme previously. Clearly this was senseless! That extra chainring m...

WillCycle: Roadrage!

http://willcycle.blogspot.com/2012/10/roadrage.html

I think, therefore I cycle. Plym Valley and Drakes Trail. Saturday, 27 October 2012. On Tuesday, 23 October 2012, I was cycling along Embankment Road in Plymouth when I was overtaken by a. Dial-a-Cab Plymouth taxi in a dangerous manner. Swearing under my breath, I let it slide, and further along, at the junction with Elliot Road, I filtered past the same. Dial-a-Cab Plymouth mini-bus taxi (and some other vehicles) to get to the Advanced Stop Line for cyclists - just like I'm supposed to do. Give motorcyc...

WillCycle: Walkham Viaduct

http://willcycle.blogspot.com/2010/12/walkham-viaduct.html

I think, therefore I cycle. Plym Valley and Drakes Trail. Thursday, 30 December 2010. For those of you not fortunate enough to live in a narrow strip of land sandwiched between the coast and Dartmoor, with NCN route 27 passing less than half a mile from your front door, the Walkham is a river that gave it's name to the village of Walkhampton. They simply built impressive viaducts across them! The picture above doesn't do the viaduct justice: it was enormous. Tracts of land that used to be part of the rai...

WillCycle: B'Twin Triban 3

http://willcycle.blogspot.com/2013/09/btwin-triban-3.html

I think, therefore I cycle. Plym Valley and Drakes Trail. Wednesday, 2 October 2013. Back in January 2013 I got a new B'Twin Triban 3 road bike. I'll not bore you with the build-up into buying this particular bike, though I will point out that I was swayed above all else by four factors:. 1) My friend Simon had one and he was very happy with it. 2) I found several rave reviews on the Interwebs about them. 3) It had a triple chain ring and. 4) It represented superb value for money. When it arrived I was r...
