http://lcheezpr.blogspot.com/2009/08/reflections-of-pride-of-people.html
EDUC 497 Puerto Rico. Friday, August 7, 2009. Reflections on the Pride of the People. It was extremely evident that the people of Puerto Rico take great pride in their identity. They are Puerto Rican, not Hispanic, not Latino, and would not check those two choices on the census. They take great pride in displaying the flag of Puerto Rico, and we saw it often in our travels. wjkellypuertorico09: Wednesday, August 5, Afro Caribbean Rhythms & Salsa Workshop
http://wjkpuertorico09.blogspot.com/2009/08/wednesday-august-5-afro-caribbean.html
Wednesday, August 5, 2009. Wednesday, August 5, Afro Caribbean Rhythms and Salsa Workshop. I was especially interested in the percussion aspects of this class. Most of the music I am familiar with has a basic bass line to it which is generally easy to pick up. With the music from this area, there seems to be several percussion lines with different bass tracks to it. This could provide research topics for music electives classes. Note the lizard on the brown mulch below, almost in the center of the picture.

Thursday, August 6, 2009. History of Education in Puerto Rico. After lunch we returned to campus and attended a 2 hour presentation on the history and current events in education in Puerto Rico. This was done by Dr. Naomi Vega (featured in the video.) Some of the more interesting facts from this class were that the entire island of Puerto Rico is only 3,500 square miles - 35 miles from north to south and 100 miles across west to east. Some interesting numbers Dr. Vega showed us were:. Students = 517,113.
