Adventures in Foodland

Friday, May 13, 2011. Baked Pasta Something or another. Labels: baked pasta something. Wednesday, May 11, 2011. So this past weekend my Mom came up for a visit for Mother's day. On her way she stopped at a strawberry stand on the side of the road and picked up a GALLON of strawberries. My friends, that's a lot of strawberries. But it was ok because they were GOOD strawberries! Delicious, dark red, juicy, flavorful strawberries. Not anything like those bitter, whiteish, sad imposters you find at Kroger.

Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Adventures in Ice Cream Part 2. Oh yeah, ice cream. Labels: home made ice cream. Sunday, March 20, 2011. No nuts in a Haystack. I was recently chatting with a friend and recalling the un-sophisticated palette of childhood - boil bag rice with butter, fried bologna sandwiches, StoveTop stuffing, potato bread by the fistful. Who's the sick twisted soul that thought, 'How can we get more carbs into a piece of white bread? 1 large package semi-sweet chocolate chips(16 oz). Kevin's ...

Adventures in Foodland: Chocolate Oatmeal Porter Cupcakes

http://booandmae.blogspot.com/2011/05/chocolate-oatmeal-porter-cupcakes.html

Monday, May 2, 2011. Chocolate Oatmeal Porter Cupcakes. Yesterday I was in the mood to bake and we had a dinner invitation over to our friends so I decided that would be the perfect excuse to bring dessert. Kevin's latest issue of Beer Advocate had just come in the mail and a cupcake recipe in it caught my eye. Beer Cupcakes? Sounds like a winning combo to me! I didn't used the beer called for in the recipe but I don't think that make a big difference at all. Aren't they so pretty? Bread and more bread.

Mama Taney's Kitchen: Sourdough Sugar Cookies

http://mamataneyskitchen.blogspot.com/2013/12/sourdough-sugar-cookies.html

Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Just in time for the holidays, I'm going to share with you my recipe for Sourdough Sugar Cookies. I know we're all busy, so I'll make this quick and easy for you with a little review of the cookies at the end, ok? 1 stick butter, softened (. If you use margarine I'll have to slap you! 1 cup sourdough starter. 1 tsp vanilla extract. 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour. 2 tsp baking powder. 1/4 tsp. baking soda. 1/4 tsp. nutmeg. 5) Sprinkle liberally with sugar. The boyos loved these ...

Mama Taney's Kitchen: July 2011

http://mamataneyskitchen.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Cookin' up a Stingray. Yes, you read that right. This post begins and took place in Duck, NC. where we were on vacation. We had been fishing from the beach and a friend kept catching skates (not the type you put on your feet to wheel around under a disco ball! As he was tossing one back he commented how unscrupulous restaurants "cookie cutter" the wings and pass them off as scallops. I pondered that if they tasted like scallops, why weren't we keeping them and eating them? And that...

Mama Taney's Kitchen: Garlic & Honey

http://mamataneyskitchen.blogspot.com/2009/10/garlic-honey.html

Sunday, October 18, 2009. My apologies, I know I've neglected this page for a while. Cold weather makes me want to be in the kitchen more, so I'm trying to pay more attention. Here we go! Cold Season is upon us. It used to be a time for stocking up on some kitchen essentials, warm blankets, tissues, and maybe some silly magazines to get you through those "day-in-bed" spells. Or maybe I'm the only one who somehow feels the need to indulge in magazines like Cosmo when I'm not feeling good? Don't peel the g...

Mama Taney's Kitchen: September 2011

http://mamataneyskitchen.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 4, 2011. Canning Goodies and The Matrix. It's that amazing, wonderful time of year again . canning season! The above photos are just three of recent items we've canned. We've been selling jelly jars of these for $4 each with great success and, more importantly, fantastic feedback! We've also been stocking our pantry with canned peaches, applesauce, canned chicken stock (what a miracle in a jar! And apple pie filling. That's a first for us, and I am eager to try it in a pie. As silly as ...

Mama Taney's Kitchen: Holiday Style Sourdough Banana Bread

http://mamataneyskitchen.blogspot.com/2013/12/holiday-style-sourdough-banana-bread.html

Tuesday, December 17, 2013. Holiday Style Sourdough Banana Bread. Fun things about sourdough is that to keep it bubbling away you have to keep feeding it. And, unless you're giving everyone you know, and a few you don't know, a starter of their own, you need to find ways to use the stuff. It makes you get in the kitchen and cook! And, unlike your family which does the same thing, it doesn't bitch and whine and moan about what you cook! Today I made some Sourdough Banana Bread but since. 2 TB ginger powder.

Sunday, March 20, 2011. Homemade dinners should never be under estimated. Ever. They can be as simple or elaborate as you'd like. Here is what we had tonight. A loaf of sourdough bread made with roasted garlic and Parmesan cheese. It came out of the oven just in time for dinner and to be topped with some homemade raw butter. Delicious! Burgundy Beef Po' Boys were the real delight of the evening though. Justin began cooking the beef on Saturday in the slow cooker. The aroma of it was sheer torture! We ser...

Mama Taney's Kitchen: Camping & Cooking - Hamburger Stew

http://mamataneyskitchen.blogspot.com/2009/07/camping-cooking-hamburger-stew.html

Monday, July 6, 2009. Camping and Cooking - Hamburger Stew. One really simple way to have some yummy, healthy food is to freeze leftovers at home, take them with you (use the frozen food in your cooler to save on ice and keep other things cool), and heat it back up when you're ready for it. We did that this time with Hamburger Stew. Cooking on the campfire. Recipe from http:/ www.recipezaar.com/Hamburger-Stew-195266. 1 1/2 lbs hamburger meat -. I used two pounds of local, pasture-raised hamburger. Brown ...

Mama Taney's Kitchen: Jewish Penicillin

http://mamataneyskitchen.blogspot.com/2009/02/jewish-penicillin.html

Monday, February 23, 2009. Life here in South Western Virginia. Here we are in February and the weather outside is truly frightful: one day it is in the 60's and less than a week later we're back to in the 30's, along with insane wind and flurries. It really isn't a huge mystery why we're all getting sick, is it? But, aha, it would be food to the rescue, via some homemade chicken noodle soup. First, some confessions. One, it wasn't chicken noodle soup. It was turkey noodle soup! Here is the basic recipe:.

Mama Taney's Kitchen: Camping & Cooking ~ Bacon Hash

http://mamataneyskitchen.blogspot.com/2009/07/camping-cooking-bacon-hash.html

Sunday, July 5, 2009. Camping and Cooking Bacon Hash. For a lot of people, cooking while you're camping in the woods is a no-brainer but, for a lot of other people it seems you're limited to hotdogs, chips, and soda. Not necessarily bad things when you're camping, but not really GOOD things either. You won't find paper plates here! 3c89ce38. This recipe was a perfect one for camping since Nick describes it as. For the recipe itself, I'm going to advise you to check out Nick's (see above link). Honest...

One of her old students is willing to trade board for training. She has a 3 year old arab that needs to be trained but she doesn't have the time to do it. This is going to be good for me because it will get me out to ride my horse, and it takes off some of the financial burden. Better go buy myself a calendar! Thursday, January 17, 2013.
